| Argh... Madona fencing I just saw Larry King Live showing a clip of Madona fencing epee for the next James Bond movie. Swashbuckling again! Looked horrible with epees.

| It's going to be so poor I heard that she demanded an appearance as part of the deal for performing the title song.
It had better be a damn good song to justify her appearing in the film.
On the other hand, it may encourage more people to take fencing up. I always notice that admissions increase immediately after a popular film featuring any kind of sword play. |

| I agree. I teach 3 classes a year, and I always notice an increase in students after fencing is featured in pretty much any reasonably successful film. |

| Does anybody else saw the clip that I am talking about? I do agree that no matter how bad her fencing is, it probably would end up bringing a few hundreds of "new" fencers. So, I agree with HilandDoug, her appearance would probably be beneficial for exposure to the sport. She apparently is a fencing instructor wearing a black outfit was fencing, I guess this other female character, who broke Madona's blade. The clip lasted less than 10 seconds, so there might be reasonable fencing in the movie. |

| I was in the Leon Paul shop a month or so ago and was told that they filmed "loads" of fencing for this film. However how much survives the cutting room floor we will have to wait and see... |

| I don't have high hopes for the fencing in the film. There are brief flashes in the bond trailer which you can view via apple.com trailer section.
It looked very much to me like Bond's opponent had started to wield his sabre (I think - possibly epee) two handed.
So once again authenticity is sacrificed |

| I would rather have positive exposure than negative exposure. I would have no exposure over negative exposure.

| A byproduct of a James Bond movie with quite a bit of fencing would be the developing of a video game (PS2/X-Box/etc) with similar theme, which may have a similar rippling effect than the Star Wars movies had. |

does anyone know when the latest adaption of The Count of Monte Cristo(sp?) is out on DVD or video - the one that was out near the start of this year?
I missed it at the cinema but wanted to see it.........

| i thought she was passe, i thought brittney was the thing now, i think she should fence too, with a little pink lace bustier, pink lipstick, nails on non fencing hand, and a rib-tickler jacket. |

So once again authenticity is sacrificed | I just looked at the main trailer...I don't see any Olympic fencing gear...just Halle Berry with what looks like a cutlass & some guy weilding what is clearly a katana (go through it frame by frame) |

| Yes, the Count is out. Infact, I just rented it last night.
Madona fencing. That's a head turner for me. Who'da thunk? I dunno even if the fencing is bad, and they don't wear the right stuff like most have said. I think it will be good exposure. Especially for women. There are No women fencers at my club excluding myself, and I think if Madona fences then other women or girls will think 'why not'. eh just my two bits.

| The clip in Larry King showed Madona in black coaching outfit and another woman fencer in traditional white fencing outfit. Both had usual olympic uniforms. Sorry, I don't remember if purple socks have made it to the movies as of yet. |

| Yeah I saw the making of her music video today on TV and she was fencing with like a mask and a chest protector. The rest was feathers or some sort of funny looking very thin fabric (could be lace).
Her fencing sucked, though she had decent footwork for an old lady |

| I just watched the music video for "Die Another Day" on yahoo.com, and Madonna fences in about half of it. Of course, it's pure Hollywood (or Pinewood Studios!), but like someone said earlier, it should boost registrations in fencing classes the world over. That's my guess, anyway, as I've seen it happen with my own classes. And she looks great! |
