Jeff Wolfe Long Island Challenge N.O.C. at Mission

On September 22nd, 2008, the newly-installed USFA Board of Directors voted to establish a new National Open Circuit using well-known, locally organized Senior events and modeled after the SYC system. In the future, a well established bid-process will be used for event designation.

The goal of the NOC is to expand the reliable strength of large super-regional events below the Div I NAC level. It will serve as a developmental path for athletes and intends to provide level-appropriate competitions for the Div IA fencer, historically underserved by the national tournament structure.

Top 4 places in each of the Super-Regional Events will auto-qualify for Div IA Summer Nationals. A season-long points standing will be maintained for the National Open Circuit with awards given to the top place holders in each weapon.

    Events Scheduled:
    Senior Women's Epee
    Senior Women's Foil
    Senior Women's Saber
    Senior Men's Epee
    Senior Men's Foil
    Senior Men's Saber

    Preregistration opens on 02/28/2009.
    Preregistration closes on 04/17/2009.

Since this is a National Event no walk-in registrations will be accepted. sign up now on askfred.net

Is there "day of" registration? If so, how much? It looks like only pre-registration on askfred.

    Paperless

This will also be an entirely paper-less tournament with projectors detailing all the information. We will be using a new system with real-time results available on-line.

We're encouraging PDAs now? Among the reffing corps? Isn't that a touch unprofessional?

It's a NOC, not a NAC. Refs get paid. But it's a good sign that they're letting refs use PDAs. It does help make the days more bearable.

Just sit back, breathe, and follow these simple steps:

I don't know how the actual event will be run....but I have been trying to get a hold of the organizers since yesterday, trying to find a hotel nearby, to no avail. (The address for this club, for some reason, confuses yahoo maps and google maps and mapques, so it's hard to tell what is near and what is far.)

Mission Fencing Center, 346 Route 25A (AKA North Country Road), Rocky Point, NY, 11778

The closest major hotels seem to be:
    Radisson MacArthur Airport (20 min)
Marriot Islandia Long Island (25 min)

Though there are smaller B&Bs nearby.

Thanks! I appreciate the information...(I had the address, but for some reason yahoo.maps and mapquest would not accept it as a valid address.)

Is there a published pricetag on this event by any chance?

I can't say I am in favor of the ever-extending deadlines either.

    Ever-Extending

We are continueing to extend the deadline for several reasons. To give you the best possible tournament for your money in terms of number of bouts and possible ratings earned and renewed. To bring in top level referees. And since this is the first year of the NOC there has been some confusion over exactly what it is so we would like to give everyone a chance to fence in this ground breaking event.
