This is interesting because the Somali pirates now issued a public statement about how they are going to kill french and us sailors they capture. That kind of threat just backs two pretty significant military powers into a corner. Makes us angry. As Lou Ferrigno says, you wouldn't like it when their angry.

Interestingly enough, while may pirates are in fact just out for the loot, there are also others taht are acting llike semi-national coast guards. Apparently there are a number of european countries dumping toxic and radioactive waste in the Somali waters that some of these 'pirates' are attempting to prevent. At the same time, there are also a number of European fishing companies illeagaly overfishing these same waters and destroying the fish stocks for that area.

I think a funny trick to play on pirates would be to set out a big treasure chest on the bow of your boat and sprinkle some gold coins around the chest. The pirates would take the chest back to their pirate HQ but when they open it up, there is no real gold inside, only gold foil covered chocolate coins. They might eat a few of them but then start to think, "Darn it, that was a lot of work for a bunch of chocolate coins."

He went to Andover and Yale on the legacy program.
He was in the Air National Guard because money and influence was used to keep him out of Vietnam.

He also did a huge buttload of drinking and drug abuse, so maybe he killed off most of his brain while he was failing to report for guard duty.

It's true that these things are being done -- Europeans exploiting Somalian waters -- and it's true that the pirates claim they're protecting their waters from this abuse, but the problem with that argument is that the pirates are ranging far beyond the Somalian coastal waters the claim they're protecting, so the claim doesn't really hold water (ha).
