X-cuse Me????!! There are pros and cons to each weapon. Foil is my weapon of choice
1. because it has rules
2. it is not as fast as sabre
3. it is commonly the beginners weapon- that's what I started with, and I can't afford to be a multi weapon player.
Epee's fine if you like the idea of playing without rules
and you like going slow
and the idea of an all-white uniform appeals to you
And if you're young and hot and think you know what ROW is , go for sabre. It's sexy.
Epee doesn't have rules? I'll have to remember that the next time some uppity ref tries to card me for something.

hey!
we're pretty much twins haha.
I'm 16 and irish dance, too. My first fencing lesson is this Wednesday.
I emailed the SCA at first about fencing but then i decided i would rather do the actual sport fencing rather than medieval fencing in costumes.
Anyway, just thought I'd say hi to a fellow dancer/fencer. I have no first hand experience to give except I'm thinking the fast footwork of irish dance is probably going to be helpful.
Speaking as an epee fencer who now primarily fences and teaches foil, I enjoy foil much more. There is more blade work, and more emphasis on all the parries. It's also a much more aerobic workout - at least in my case.
I still do better at epee and enjoy it. Us older folks can still be fairly competitive in epee. Try them all and see which one you like. But give each weapon a chance.
