    FIE Clothing Sizing?

So, I'm planning on traveling abroad for school. I want to fence while abroad and I need to shell out for some FIE jacket and knickers. And I don't have a problem with the price, since I figure it's going to last forever.

The problem is, I am tall and skinny--6'2", 160 lbs., with a 37.5" chest. Checking out Leon Paul, PBT, FWF(since they're making Uhlmann stuff now, right?), and all the rest, I feel like nothing would be the right size. I may call Triplette and get something custom.

Question: can anyone provide advice or comments on how FIE stuff they own fits?

    Anything would be helpful.

I can only compare two jackets: one from LP, the other from Triplette.

The LP in size 40 fit me well -I'm down to 5'9" and 150 these days, and a US-size 40 in their 350N jacket fit me perfectly.

I recently tried a size 40 "FIE" from Triplette, and the jacket was huge by comparison with the LP - sleeves 1-1/2" longer, and almost 4" greater circumference. The neck was also much larger than the LP, and the chest about 2" larger.

I guess the only moral is make sure you can return a jacket for fit without penalty, as manufacturers have considerably different sizing.

Allstar is said to be a bit more slim cut than for example LP. (So I prefer LP ;-)

But having a uniform made up to measurements is not that complex or expensive. Absolutly worth the hassle for an FIE uni. PBT in Hungary has good servce on this. When I needed a custom made lamé, the shipped it 2 days later! See http://shop.pbtfencing.com/

Negrini by all accounts is a slim-cut uniform. The club-mate who wears a Negrini uniform is a slim man. I wear a PBT, and find that it runs true to size for a woman. If you have time, order the uniform and if you don't like how it fits return it - I understand this is not convenient but it is what happens when you order on the net. Alternatively, if you are going to NAC or Summer try some on there.

I believe PBT - and others - will do a custom uniform as well. A very tall fencer at my club had his uniform made by them and was happy. The downside with custom is that there is no going back - it is yours.

I know Negrini also does custom work, as my coach had a nice jacket done by them. It's certainly more expensive, but it might be worth it.

Does anyone know if it is possible to get an existing FIE jacket tailored (taken in) by either a regular fencing company (like Triplette, LP, etc.) or a regular alteration shop?

Check out Negrini. If you are going to Europe, you might just want to wait and buy something there. It would probably be cheaper. Take a look at this very thorough measure chart from Negrini regarding their sizes:

    http://www.negrini.com/eng/list/tgdiv.pdf

Just remember, they are talking centimetres, not inches (roughly, 1" = 2.5 cm).
