Last chance at $1,000 in C-and-better epee tournament in OKC

Mixed epee, open to A, B or C fencers, in Oklahoma City on May 2:
http://askfred.net/Events/whoIsComin...nament_id=7959

This is it. The final opportunity you've got to qualify for the $1,000 prize in June. Yes, that's cold, hard cash (well, a check) for first place, as well as $500 for second place and $250 for third.

I've been posting reminders here for the first four events, and the turnout has been a little light. ... Remember that in order to compete for the big money, the prerequisite is that you showed up at one of the first five? And that each event is limited to 28 fencers? - Well, that means that if you're interested mainly in the pay-off, your blind odds are much better now to qualify for the finale.

$$$ aside... It's practice for Summer Nationals. Good folk. Fun times to be had by all. ... Our sponsor has been providing free pizza, too. Can't beat free pizza.

But you've got to register for Allstar #5. Last chance.

(The event info posted at AskFRED explains all this, but you can also pester Jerry Benson for clarification.)

Feh. Forget the money. We fence because we love the damn sport, no?

So don't forget to sign up. If you keep putting it off until the last minute, everyone else is going to procrastinate, too, waiting for the other guy to register first and justify the effort ... You know how it goes. It's a vicious cycle of not doing anything.

This is another good warm-up for summer nationals. And even if you're concerned about "wasting" your time on a road trip because you might get bumped out of the event early, consider that most of the OKC folks would be happy to hang around and fence afterward for more practice. Just ask.

And did I mention pizza?

Last-minute bump. ... You won't see any more messages about this event series here after this weekend because the finale in June is by invitation only (points-based; see previous notes or AskFRED).

I really figured this would attract at least a couple of robust egos who assumed they could easily steal $1,000 out of Oklahoma. Guess not.
