    The Greatest Lie Ever Told?

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/comment/c...ever-told.html

There you have it. From the world's leading expert. End of story. I should print off copies of this for all those idiots on campus who bother me about driving my H2.

"the sea has if anything dropped in recent decades."

It either has or it hasn't. There is no "if anything."

Also, put borefests like this in the politics forum where only those with too much times on their hands will be bored by it next time.

Yeah, attack his science through his writing style. Smart.

This isn't political, it's social and scientific. Of course it may have political implications (since you Chicken Littles have been running around Washington making a fuss about it), but the article and the conclusions are not politically motivated.

its interesting that he makes the claim that the sea hasn't risen, but certain areas have sunk.

Though your reading comprehension skills are no doubt formidable to get you into Pepperdine, you seem to have missed that the scientist is not the one who wrote the article. I am merely criticizing the lack of precision in writing, as the article itself is somehow very light on science of which to be critical.

You should check the credentials of the author -- even a glance at wikipedia. Also, some of his authoritative sources do not seem so authoritative.

We could also ask people in places like Kiribati where their beaches have gone.

Off to Politics were this belongs.

And do a little more reading. Booker's credentials are questionable. He clearly has an axe to grind...

Undoubtedly this does not act as a counter argument for Trickery

What part of that was a lie?

Actually, Obama's campaign promises are rating up there with the greatest lies ever told.

The best lie I've ever heard was a chat up line a friend of mine used. He introducd himself as a biscuit designer and said, "See the pattern on the backs of custard creams - I designed that." Believe it or not it worked and he went home with the lass.

Never mind the zombies; the pythons are heading north.

And if you think I'm joking, just google pythons and Florida.

It's just a matter of time until we get snakes on a plane and then the whole US (except Alaska) will be covered in snakes all Summer. Winter cold will kill off the majority of them in northern states but they'll just start the migration again with the next Spring thaw.

That's actually not so far fetched as it seems. As it's fairly well known that Scandinavia is still rising from the retreat of the ice caps from the last Ice Age (possibly current Ice Age if the interglacial periods count), there are parts of Greece that have been shown to have lowered in their ground level due to plate tectonics, where the Asiatic plate (I think, off the top of my head) is pushed under the edge of the Eurasian plate, and there are also other factors which could be at work, such as the actual geological make-up of Venice for one thing. I'm too tired and pissed to think of anything else, and am most probably completely wrong in what I've already said, but I've typed it, so I'm damned well posting it now

The greatest lie the Moderator ever pulled was convincing the forum he didn't exist.

And like that, poof. This thread is gone.

Or... the greatest lie is that global warming is the greatest lie... bah... neither are great lies. I'm sure the folks here can come up with better lies.

What about the rivers? Do they count? I don't think that this is a 'lie'. Water seeks it's own level. When we build and build and build over land that once absorbed the water, then we can say we have another sort of a problem. But I don't think they're lying about this, except they really don't know to what degree the water is actually rising.
