| I don't think there is only one Cindy in Singapore.
spl you wanted me to call you and now you are upset because you know I am not gay? Do you still want me to call you? I can be your friend but not your boyfriend.
no wonder you like to use all those smiley faces and you like to wear pink.
I think I know who you are. You fence saber right? If so then I have fenced you too. you kept hitting off target to my butt. And you had a big smile afterwards everytime. Was that you?
You should be smart like David and Lopez. |

So its come to personal insults now has it? "You're gay!"... what a way to defend oneself. Hope your parry riposte is better than that.
BTW. I fence FOIL. |

LOL. :-)
SEE YA IN LONG BEACH!!! | An "A", huh? And this is not from Zeroflash, but from someone else who knows him, who just posted for the first time after ZF was caught out.
A very fast "A" rating-- and kudos on the Singapore trip, where you were apparently fencing better than you were a few months ago given your previous posts: Quote: Originally posted by ZEROFLASH I've been fencing for about 8 months now and I work hard at it. I fence 4-5 nights a week and for about 2-3 hours each time. I've taken all of the classes that my school offers and a few private lessons from the head instructor there. Eventhough I am a better fencer than when I started I feel as though I'm not improving at the rate I should be. sigh.....
In fact the last few times I fenced I fenced like crap. For some reason I was reacting to everything the way a begginer would. Last night after fencing so poorly I felt so bad that I wanted to just give up on this whole fencing thing.
Maybe I'm just burned out. Have any of you been through this? How many years did it take for you to be satisfied with your fencing? How did it happen for you? Was it an inch by inch thing or did it come in leaps with long periods of stagnation in between? Did you need to break though some mental barriers before your fencing skills took off?
Please help. I'm really feeling so bad and so alone about this.
Silly I know. |
and Quote: Originally posted by ZEROFLASH Well I just thought about quitting. I would never actually quit. That not my spirit. I guess I have just lost a lot of confidence over the last few fencing sessions. I am in good physical shape. I have always done well in sports. I hold a black belt in 2 martial arts: Taekwondo and Wing Chun. I became good at these 2 martial arts at a very fast pace but not fencing....
I think fencing is really the hardest martial art to master. And I also have to say that fencing is the fastest. |
From the Thread Burned Out Advice Needed you started in August.
8 months for an "A." And beating the cream of Singapore after only 3 months fencing. Impressive.

| Heh. This is such a farce. 8 months of fencing? That's even less than me, and I consider myself to be wearing diapers in terms of fencing. So, do you think you are tHat good after 8 months?
I am a regular at Fecing Masters too, and I can't think of any Wong that could beat Coach Lopez flat. I have no impression of a big, tall, mighty Asian-American either. And the other FM'ers here are right about your mistaken concept of time. Most likely you have been to FM before the period you claimed, albeit occassionally. And likely you have never fenced Coach Lopez either. He is not a joke, even though he has not fenced competitively for ages that are perhaps enough to cover the span of your miserable life. He is a good coach too, by the way. What makes you think James Wong is the best? I thought he can only coach girls well. So, are you really male? =P
Heh, I can understand criticism. But yours have gone to the base level of personal insults. I seriously think you have a problem with us. Err... maybe a problem in your mind in the first place. This is not a place to revel in your mental dysfunction, pal.
Maybe I should have a go at fencing epee with you. I'm really curious to find out if you are as good as you make out yourself to be.
I hope my English is sufficiently good to register my words in that wool of yours, yes?

| yeah, this topic has been discussed to death. but there really aren't that many things to talk about fencing...
I myself is a huge flicker, however, I wouldn't mine if something is done to make fencing more realistic.

yah, i guess Mr ZERO feels that as Singaporeans our English doesnt count for much... matter of opinion again. My opinion is that such an attitude borders upon slightly imperialistic to downright racist. Haha
Anyway, I've been around even before FM was started and pride myself for being among the pioneer members of the club. One thing which we pride ourselves on is our hospitality to anyone willing to learn or fence. Anyone who comes down is remembered and recorded and most foreigners who come to fence in our club are in fact quite well recieved by us since many of us would jump at the chance to fence with others from around the world. No descrimination what so ever. Anybody reading this... i hope that if u all drop by Singapore that u would give us a drop by for a friendly bout and supper after.
Anyway, not to digress, since we keep such close tabs on who comes in and out of FM, and since i have been around andNEVER EVER met u. I guess that means........ u were never there. Do u even know how big we are or the color of the walls? Or the actual rd on which we sit? do u know the color of the dog that stands watch on the first floor? No? didn't think so.
Thanks maniac and Elflune for your comments. I think it is time we moved on from this episode and wipe away the stain on our time and frustrations. If u really are who u are Mr Wong, I guess your in house reputation at whatever club u fence in has been ruined.... didn't think that Singaporeans are a fiesty enough bunch to call your bluff huh? And, trust me, if any of us even remotely finds out who u are. We will slam u with a lawsuit so big... (yes, i have done the research for both the laws in my country and yours ... n we do have many friends in the US.)
That u probably would have to quit fencing just to pay the amount in damages to us.... Oh yes, and there is punitive damages in the US.... do u know what that means? it means your court fine can go into the millions just because this is an internet website which is available world wide.
w rgds,
Sombrero

| For all of you people in Singapore. Sorry about teasing you. I was just poking fun. I didn't expect you guys would get so mad. Sorry. Next time I'm in Singapore I will go down to your school and fence with you. David, spl and sombrero, I'll take you guys out for some chicken rice and a drinks.
smiles.
P.S. David has really fine character. He never lost his temper and just tried to keep the topic on fencing. |

| I fenced a guy a while back who is really really good at flicking. Everytime I would lunge he would circle parry and clear sword completely out of the way and then with the same circular motion he would land a flick on my back at close distance. Really smooth. I noticed that sometimes I get hit by flick to the back from an opponent that is really close. (like in-fighting close.) It seems as though his blade has done a full U. Now how is is that a person can have such strong wrists? Its amazing! Or perhaps there are some foil makers who specialize in making super whippy blades? Im pretty good at flicking but I can't curve my blade that much! lol. |

| Yup...
Leon paul has a bunch of blades called flick masters which indeed are like whips... only problem is they break very easily.
Most foil fencers that hve been fencing for a considerable period of time would be able to pull off the stunt u talked about. It is not so much wrist work.... more like a fluid "c" movement with muscles along the forearm doing the trick. Because of the "c" motion... this allows a tremendous follow through on the pt when flicking..... this is esp so if your opponent is shorter than u.
cheers.

| ZEROIQ has tempted me to start posting again.
Making the light go on is a superficial indication that you hit the guy. If all you care about is the superficial results, you're cheating yourself out of something much larger.

| I tend to agree with what the guy said about flicking. Classical fencing and sport fencing are different. Making the light go off in a tounament bout is not superficial. Its valid and its the whole point. Last week at the LBI over half of the hits scored by the top guys in the finals were flicks. |

| There is nothing superficial about flicking to hit someone. It's not as easy as people make it out to be. It is needed where it's needed, and it can't be used when it's not appropriate.
If you don't have it among your repertoire, you're handicapped just that much.

| I was implying that caring only for making the light go off is superficial, not flicking. It's like playing football and finding joy only in seeing your score on the scoreboard.
