Array So there's five in the east coast and one in the west. Were there any procedures on assigning these things? What do people in Illinois, Texas, Colorado, New Mexico, Missouri, Alabama, Florida, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Wisconsin or Indiana do? -

Array You didn't get the memo? People who don't live within driving distance of NYC shouldn't fence.

As someone who as advocated for a NYC Area SYC, even I think this is a bit extreme. Perhaps the powers that be are feeling like Southeast/Southwest/MidWest are being served by NACs? -

Wow that's dumb.. The year I get out of Y14 is the year they implement 2 NY, 1 NJ, and a DC syc... [I live in NJ] -
Hmmm, I have always wanted to see the Green Bay Packer's east coast fencing facility... (I know, I know, it is at Dana Hall School...) -
Who was on the committee that selected these locations? -

Array Well.... 5 in the Northeast and one in California, including 2 within what even the most homebound of NYC denizens would call a reasonable driving distance. Yea, because THAT is an equitable spread around the country. But hey, NYC and the Bay Area are being served! That's it, I'm done with the discussion forums on F.net. It's had its uses, but the ideologues, ranters, and "experts" have drowned too many of the conversations. I'm changing my password to something random and never logging in again. -

Array Before I throw stones, I'm just curious as to the bids submitted that were rejected. If no one from elsewhere submitted viable bids, then that's just the way it is. If otherwise, my brain hurts. The only way to atone for being occasionally a little over-dressed is by being always absolutely over-educated. -Oscar Wilde -

If it is in the Northeast, that would be the icing on the cake for everyone who lives in the Northeast.
Another explanation could be that all bids for SYC's were accepted and there weren't any for anywhere else. Although not sure what happened to only having three or four SYC's per year and all in different regions.
Still would like to know who was on the selection committee.

I'll ask, but I think it's extremely unlikely Houston didn't submit a bid again. -
This was left off the first email.
Another was just sent out including this event:
USFA Kentucky Division Louisville KY March 26-28, 2010

Even if there are no bids from other areas, the coordinator should strive to search out people in underserved areas (Hamza in Houston, Seals in SLC, etc) and help them get a bid in and help them get a SYC started. Helping those understand the requirements and assisting in meeting those requirements should be part of the coordinator's job.
The main goal, still, is to help foster youth fencing in all parts of the US. -
WHEW!! Good for all of us obsessive post-readers that Cobra got a tournament!! -

Array Wow, five out of seven on the east coast, one in the middle of the eastern half of the US and one in CA. Seems fair to me.
We did not go to Prise de Fer this year because it was the same fencers we saw in Rochester and New Hampshire. It will only be more so next year with Rochester, Cobra and Prise de Fer. I guess that KY and Houston will be a combined event for everyone east of the Rocky Mountains and all others will go to San Jose.
Crazy. " ... or spend fifty years learning to begin to learn to beat your adversary at fencing. After that you can start on mathematics, until it is time to learn to plough.” White, T.H. The Once and Future King (emphasis added) -
