I wasn't reading anything into it -- just repeating a funny story I had heard. This was the ONLY bout Sada lost the entire season. Apparently, the girl who had just started fencing did not know who she was. And even Sada (one of the nicest fencers I've come across) thought it was pretty funny. -

I love the way that the Duke website describes a World champion and multi-Olympic medallist as "a freshman saber from Portland, Ore." - surely only in US college sports would you write an article that almost reads as if you think it is as much of an achievement to be on the Duke team as winning an Olympic medal.
(I don't mean to take away any credit from Ms Ward for the academic achievement required to be at Duke) Read the college 360 version of the article (second link in the OP), since that website was the body conferring the title of "Co-fencer of the week." If you read that article, you'll see that the co refers to the fact that she was named co-fencer of the week along with Emily Cross and Daria Schneider.
