Sword scholar Richard Cohen is a former fencing champion as well as being a past Artistic Director of the Festival, and his new book By The Sword is a glorious, swashbuckling history of gladiators, musketeers and samurai. He joins Erica Wagner, Literary Editor of The Times, to trace the history of swordplay from the ancient civilisations of Greece and Egypt to the modern sport of fencing.
