    Fencing in Kerrville, Texas

I'm considering moving to the Kerrville area and am looking for a club near there (Hill country including Fredricksburg). I've found fencing in San Antonio and Austin, but nothing closer. Anyone know of any clubs there? I've got a machine and am very versitile.

There is no fencing in Kerrville. the Hurleys lived up there several years ago. They had a camp up there a couple years ago at a local college...but nothing up there right now. You are welcome at Alamo Fencing Academy in San Antonio...especially if your an epee fencer.

It is only about a 25 minute drive on I-10....or maybe 35 with traffic at the end of the day.

Or at the San Antonio Fencing Center - home of Salle Pouj.

    My first Fencing master

My first Fencing Master was Poujardu (sp) (the original, not the son) when I was going to UT. He used to come to Austin once a week and train us in the old YWCA. He always tried to talk me into epee (pentathalon) but I've always enjoyed foil much more.

We don't live there (yet), but may move there in about a year and a half. We're visiting next week to look for houses.

Thanks for the quick replies, guys, maybe we'll cross swords in the future.

Unfortunately, neither of the Poujardieus are with us ...they have both passed on. You are welcome at either club in San Antonio. We have some foil at AFA but we are primarily an epee club.

    thanks

thanks for the invite. I can fence epee, I just don't enjoy it much. Foil is a much better workout for me.

It looks like about an hour drive for me, if we settle where I think we will. Future will tell. Maybe I can drum up some business closer to home if the Hurleys started some fencers up there. We'll see.

I heard the Pouj's had passed away. I later trained with:
    Nouvou (Dallas)
    Faulkner (Los Angeles)
    Okawa (Los Angeles)

    Hey, Luz

Whichever club you pick, I'll just be happy to have you in the Lone Star State. Perhaps after some future tournament I can buy you a drink and let you chat into my microphone...

Say "Hi" to Kinky Friedman! (not a member of the fencing community but a renown Kerrville resident!)

    Hey Luz,

It's time you started your own club.
    You know enough.
Build the salle and they will come.

Someone like Mda could drive up now and then for a reality check.

    IFCS style.

probably right. I even have a scoring machine and reels now. If I move there, I will be retired and have no excuses to not start the club. I'll bet the Hurleys started some folks.
