Ok, I'm back in Aussie for the time being. MY gear is somewhere in customs.....so for everyone who was wondering, I am back in one piece and slowly coming to terms with a dial up connection...hence my lack of posting. When life slows down abit I will let you all know what I am up too.....

I am sure that you are happy to be back home. Yes, the 56k dial-up is most annoying once you get used to a powerful broadband connection. However, you will eventually get used to the lack of performance.

Welcome back to the land of OZ, and remember

If you love your weapons let them go, and they will return to you.
If they get lost in customs, hunt them down through agent after agent until they magically appear months later.

you bring your stuff around on the plane? what do customs do to your stuff? you have to put them in a hard shell and they must go in regular luggage?
I brought my cat on a plane from new orleans to new york. I got a regulation cat carrier, brought him to the vet and they gave him a little pill to take to calm him for the trip. He was so cute. I miss my cat.

I'm sure you are glad to be home. Which part of Oz are you in? Have you found a club to fence in yet? Hope your weapons return to you soon. I should relate to you an incident during the 1996 Australian Intervarsity In Melbourne. This guy, I can't remember which Uni (Definately not one of the Unis in Vic), was the armourer for the club. As he was checking in the bag containing all of the club's weapons he was asked "What's in the bag" whereupon he promptly replied "Weapons" with gusto. Of course the officer gave him a really stern look and they spent half an hour going through the bag. He was nominated for that year's golden gumby award, he didn't win though, as it occured prior to the actually Intervarsity.

Qld to Tasmania, by way of the UK -- that's quite the change.

There are supposedly 5 fencing clubs in the very down under part of Down Under:

Launceston Fencing Club, meets on Wednesdays only
    http://www.vision.net.au/~groover/

    Tasmania University Fencing Club
    http://info.utas.edu.au/docs/fencing/tufc.html

    and

    Elizabeth Fencing Club
based at the South Hobart Centre for Adult Education.

    Bayeux Fencing Club
based at The Salvation Army Bridge Centre.

    Launceston Swords Club
based at the Launceston Police and Citizens Youth Club.

Good luck with your move to the birthplace of Errol Flynn!

Our club used to have a fencer from Taz. He fenced at TUFC and was initially coached by Mark Scully. The end result was a very ... oddball style.

Gav, The odd ball style is typical Mark Scully, who is a very odd person. He is a nice enough guy, but taking lessons with him is scarey, been there done that!
mfp thanks fo the list of clubs. May have to email/phone them to find out what the story is.
    Thanks everyone for worrying.
BTW my gear arrived yesterday so guess what I did last night and what muscles I can feel this morning....

C'mon, Zelda, you can't tell us you just did OK and not give any details....How did you do in pools? How'd you do in DE's? Who took you out, and how and why? Where'd you go for drinks after, and with whom? How drunk was that guy who was hitting on you? C'mon, girl, give us the details!!!

Hilanddoug, my result from Pools to DE's can be found at http://www.cf2002.org/ResWFI_Frameset.htm. Came 13th/38 so am generally happy, considering that was about where I was in the rankings when I left Aus last year. As for afterwards? WEll 2 of the girls I train with (the McGraths) and I caught the train back into town. We terrorised everyone as we all had huge bags and were talking very loudly about stop hits and bruising. WE were also bagging Lindsays ex b/f, she should break up with guys more often as she gets a nice sense of revenge which enabled her to come 2nd overall. I walked through Kings Cross (really dodgy area) to the flat I was staying at and then had dinner and spent the rest of the evening oggling the cute gay guys walking under my balcony. That was it. I spent the rest of the time relaxing and running around USyd trying to orgainse my PhD enrolment.
