    Ivy Championship Part II

I guess it started half an hour ago. Could be an interesting day at Brown.

First round results are posted. (Or more correctly round 5 results.)

I would like to encourage anyone who cares about fencing to e-mail and complain about the inclusion of "top 10 movie sword fights" on that blog. It is an insult to the competitors, schools, and sport and should be removed.

Are you serious? Who gives a crap? I give credit to the person who is providing the results on the website. I just use something called a "mouse" to scroll past the silly "sword fight" stuff. Try it yourself.

And I scroll past it too, but that doesn't change the fact that it's insulting.

Also, while it's certainly appropriate to give "give credit to the person who is providing the results on the website" it is his job, so it's not like he's making some huge personal sacrifice to provide us with the details.

Sorry, Protoast, I totally agree with Soberin. I loved getting the results so quickly. If this is indeed this person's job, he did a great one.

I agree - the only quicker results came from my daughter's phone call. And a small shout out to my daughter...You GO GIRL!!!!

(luckily she never reads f.net or I'd be dead!)

Results need not necessarily come with stupid movie commentary interjected.

    I agree with prototoast.

I had assumed that this was just a personal blog that someone was doing on his own. Given the links from the Ivy League website it appears to be something more official than that. In which case it's a rediculously poor display.

Not only are the movie references completely irrelevant and should be removed, the league should minimally spring for a domain name. Using wordpress is one thing. Making it obvious that one is doing so is another.

This is acceptable (and valuable) as a personal project. If this is being done as part of paid work then it should have been done better.

To the point where I still find it hard to believe that this IS an official, paid, project. Other than the links off of ivyleaguesports.com and the sponsorship "thank you" to Absolute on the blog site, does anyone have any indication that this was done as part of a paid job?

Well, I can't say if technically the blog is part of his job description, the guy who runs the blog (Alex Searle) works for the Ivy League sports information.

The rumored injury occurred in Orleans, and she fenced in Moscow, so I'd guess not seriously.

Her ankle is still slightly hurt. However, she didn't fence at Ivies because she had already missed the first one, and our other sabre girls were all on track to get all-Ivy honors. Daria already had enough bouts to0 qualify for regionals, and since her ankle was still bothering her a bit, she ceded her spot. What's funny is tht our alternate was actually first in the Ivies. Or women's sabre is badass!

Just how badass are they you may ask? (or perhaps you don't care - but tough!) The Lions WS squad's win-loss record at this year's Ivy Champs was 45-9 giving them an 83% win percentage rate. This was the top squad record - men or women - of the 2 day meet! Lions WS went undefeated as a squad - their worst result coming against Harvard when they won 6-3.

And all 3 ladies earned All Ivy Honors - 2 first team and 1 second team.

And this was all WITHOUT their TOP WS FENCER!!!

(and let's hear it for that alternate!!!)

So what does that say about this "team" when the top "badass" saber fencer opts to go to a world cup instead of fencing for her team
