Try this one for size...

Fencer A attacks Fencer B ...Fencer B parries into ungrounded floor resulting in Fencer A light...Ref awards touch to Fencer A...Fencer B says "sir that was floor...there was no contact made"

The ref chastises Fencer B stating that she is not allowed to argue the validity of a touch hitting the floor that Fencer A must state that she hit the floor ..

"So sir basically the fencer who has the most to gain by stating a touch hit gets to decide if they want the touch???"

Ref is gathering fencers for the pool. Starts to go down the list. Gets to my name, and without any hesitation or uncertainty calls "Tom Alphabet". Also without any hesitation I say "Here!".

I was "Alphabet" for the whole pool.

Heh, my last name is a doozie as well. I don't think a ref has EVER gotten it right, even after I corrected it.

Nowadays all I have to listen for is "Alex *pause*" and I pipe right up. Try to save them the embarrasment
