why not use askfred??? The Citrus Open(Orange Coast)
and San Bernardino's 3 weapon opens
aren't using AskFRED.
WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!???????????????
I know many from AZ would go if we had more information about those tourneys and who is attending.
It also makes it alot easier for me to organize the posse, as it were, so that parents and kids understand who is going, who is chaperoning, etc.
I don't get it. askFRED is soooo useful. I think the San Bernardino people(College of the Desert) have some anti-computer bias or something. I remember calling them years ago and getting some unconvincing, non-committal answer from some woman about why they don't use it.
As for the Citrus Open I just think they are in the wrong on this.
Anyone in the Pacific Coast Section care to shed some light on this? now more than ever its important for tournaments to get the word out... money's tight.

Fatfencer Well, you see, if you use AF, your event gets publicized. When that happens, fencers from other divisions show up (and occasionally win), upsetting the local status quo.
Furthermore, people don't really want to fence if they can't find the paper and send it in... those Fred-ites are just looking for a short cut to the Olympic team. Where's their work ethic? -

Array Actually....for most OC Open events, AF isn't needed....they're already to the point where they're flighting pools...something which I don't remember seeing in previous years.
The last one at CSULB was the first one in this season where we didn't get out late.
San Bernardino events have always been small....I remember when sabre was usually myself, Leslie Taft, Costa Nicols, and whoever happened to stop by. They've been slowly getting larger...mostly in epee. They may not WANT to run larger events...or they want to grow them at a rate they can control and adjust to instead of the sudden increase in OC.

That's no reason to not use AskFRED. At the very least, it provides a service to the attendees so they know what to expect, and so they can see the results online.
If they're worried about growth, AskFRED lets you set a maximum number of entrants allowed in each event.

Dan When was the last time you saw a division turn people away from a regular event because there were too many entrants? Most divisions need all the entry fees they can get. -

Most divisions need all the entry fees they can get. Some of the smaller clubs out here limit entries based on how many strips they have. The only time anything out here gets double-flighted is when we're running one of our large regional events and we exceed the 11 or 13 strips we have available (depending on the venue.) I think we've had to do that twice now.

Array perhaps they simply don't want a whole lot of people there... -
There's either a limit or there isn't. Either way, AskFred works. -

Why do some organizers refuse to post results? It really would be nice to see the final results posted -- especially for those fencers who can't always stay until the end. -

AF has the benefit of being an aggregator of events - I can easily see what is in driving distance on any given weekend. This is a good thing.
Frankly, if everyone used it (instead of just 70-80%) it would probably be good for the sport - information, particularly for new and young fencers, is remarkably inconsistent.
The improvement in communications - as well as the appearance of "having our sh*t together" would more than outweigh any negative effects caused by Freddo. Similar Threads -
