    FIE? non-FIE?

What is FIE, non-FIE? What does that mean? And what does it do to your weapon/blade? I fence Epee, if that has anything to do with it.

Also (random question), what grip do you use?

Go to your epee grip thread....I answered the FIE question there.

I use a Belgian grip, myself.

Sabre grip with minimal preference between brands, although I prefer rubber-coated over the hard plastic, cord-covered, or leather-wrapped varieties.

Oiuyt, best "what is FIE X" answer ever. Craig, is it possible to set the server so that, until you have X number of posts, whenever you try to post something you get a pop up that says "USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION" and you cannot continue until you swear that you have...

Zanzig, all of these FIE and what is best questions, probably should be directed at your coach and fencers around your club. What is best for some is not best for all depending on how the fence, what weapon, compatibility with parts of club mates and so on. My epee is best for me, but a lot of people could not fence well with it, just as an example. My mask is the best for me, but it does not work for saber, (well, I have a saber mask also, but you get the idea...).

Not trying to be mean, just that your best resource is your fellow fencers. Also many clubs sell gear or have preferred vendors or minimum standards and might be a little cross if you get something without checking with them.
Just another lost soul saved by the (hit) First Church of EPEE!

    Three words: FIE is better.

Four more words: FIE is more expensive.

If a weapon is "FIE", that means that it has been tested to a higher standard than just any weapon. It will typically last longer (up to 3 years) and be much safer. That, however, comes with a cost. A typical FIE epee blade will run you up to $180, as opposed to a non-FIE (standard) blade (which will probably last 6-9 months) at around $75.

In my opinion, the FIE weapon is worth the cost.
Dun wry, it r all gud n K!

if you search FIE on google, you should be able to pull up a webpage that is called
    fie.org.uk
you can pull good information from there.
