Array Wait, what about injuries that you can only hear? I swear my knees get more crackly-creaky sounding every day...like nails on a chalkboard. Somebody should have a picture of the guy's foot at NAC D who wore through the tape on his shoe and abraded his foot to hell. -

What, precisely, did you have in mind - is it a part of the weapon's guard (or something attached to the weapon's guard), or a separate system?
If the former... It would be illegal, as it would violate m.4.5
The grip must not include any device which can increase in any way the protection afforded to the hand or wrist of the fencer by the guard: a cross bar or electric socket which extends beyond the edge of the guard is expressly forbidden.
On the other hand, there doesn't seem to be anything in the rulebook (or, at least, anything that a word search for "rigid", "hard", "metal", "protect" or "glove" would highlight) that would specifically disallow use of a glove with a rigid structure, similar to an articulated plate-armor gauntlet, that is completely covered with the normal cloth (though, m.26 states that "the glove may be slightly padded"; it's possible that some interpretations would let such an armored glove pass, while others would not.)
There also doesn't seem to be anything that would specifically disallow a streamlined pauldron/spaulder-rerebrace-couter-vambrace/bracer combination (made from the same materials as the chest protectors) worn underneath the jacket (much like how the chest protector must be worn under the jacket) and in addition to (not in lieu of) the plastron.
Similarly, one could theoretically use a streamlined cuisse-poleyn-greave combination (also crafted from the same materials as the chest protectors) under the knickers and socks.
And a jockstrap/cup combination doesn't seem terribly different - in form or function - from an armored codpiece.
*hmmm...tries to imagine someone fencing while wearing most of a suit of plate armor underneath their uniform...* -

Array Man, good thing all the people who have posted pictures here were wearing socks. I will never think twice about halting the bout immediately and carding someone for the smallest bit of skin after seeing how those socks saved their lives. -

-m Oooooh - my bad! We were on the other side of the convention center and didn't actually see the injury up close and personal...just heard the ruckus and saw the scars a few weeks later. -

Array Stormbringer:
I guess my design would be out for strip fencing, but I do dueling as well, and I think it would be good for dueling. What is this "streamlined pauldron/spaulder-rerebrace-couter-vambrace/bracer combination" that you're talking about? I'm not good with picturing all this stuff you're talking about.... I'm sorry... OOO good call we would hate for anyone to hae skin exposed, no one wants to get a nasty scrape. Those could put the pictures of the kids hand to shame. why lunge when you can just flick...? -

The pauldron/spaulder, rerebrace, couter, and vambrace/bracer are pieces of plate armor that cover the shoulder (with some pauldrons also covering the armpit and part of the chest and back), upper arm, elbow joint, and lower arm (with some bracers - more typically used be archers - also extending covering to the outside of the wrist and the back of the hand), respectively.

The idea I was getting at was that one could fashion these components from the same plastics used to make the chest protectors, and to design them in such a way that they could be worn underneath a standard fencing uniform (the "streamlining") while providing additional protection and reinforcement to the arm.
Basically, picture the shoulder/arm of a knight's suit of armor, then make it lightweight and thin enough to fit inside a fencing jacket sleeve, then combine it with the previously mentioned armored glove. Would that accomplish your original goal? Similar Threads -
