    Not like you weren't warned...

Is that weapon hand or off hand?

Wasn't me, but it happened at NYAC. Off hand, fleshe deflected off chest, broke blade, and went through the back hand. His hand is actually completely fine though, no permanent damage.

AHAHAHHA yes, i heard about that one, I did not know it was so awesome.

Condolences to whomever it happened. I hope they have healed to a point where my boyish glee towards blood and gore does not offend them.

Sticky this in the "new to fencing" forum.

    The bumper sticker should read

"You may have an Honor Student, but I am not impressed because my fencer will make him/her cry by doing this to their hand."

"I keep broken epee's in my car; If you try that kungfu stuff with me this is what will happen to your praying mantis style."

"Swords in a gunfight? Pull the trigger now, *****"

    "X-men roleplaying. Wolverine, amidoinitrite?"

    "This is... not Lupus"

Lemme go ahead and return you back to the incessent ramblings of RoW and rules which all threads seem to devolve to. I need a valium.

    Nope.

I was there and had to be the one to call his mother.

The fencer is actually left-handed, but fences right. We were especially concerned because of that.

We had to take turns holding his arm up before the medics arrived. From what he told me, the most painful part was the trip to the hospital (which was a somewhat bumpy ride).

He was back fencing in a very short time (less than two weeks from what I recall). Pretty much like it never happened. The guy has balls.

Not a shop. Not at all. It's Nick Vomero's hand, he goes to St. John's. Brendan Baby was the owner of the weapon. It somehow missed major veins, arteries, and nerves. It didn't actually go through the knuckle.

Anyone who thinks this is a shop is, well, entitled to their opinion, but they're wrong. I could actually put you in touch with Nick, but I feel like it's not worth the effort.

Vassil Etropolski also had a point in line go straight through his glove and then straight through his hand, to the point that he grabbed one side of the hand and blood spurted out the other side.

You read what I just wrote? Vassil Etropolski is a sabre coach. You're never safe!

Two notes for ya - it IS possible to miss everything...I've heard of a case of a shooting in the neck that missed every major blood vessel, nerve, missed the trachea as well as the esophagus. That's when you KNOW your nickname should be "Lucky."
I'll 100% agree with the ride to the hospital hurting more. I'm one of those paramedics with a heart and if it looks like it hurts, I tend to offer pain management 'cause I KNOW the rides to the hospital are rough! I definitely would have offered something for that!

Not showing this to Mrs Wallet. She would not allow the kids to fence again.

Probably want them to take up a safer sport -- like ice hockey.

Ok. Fencing isn't the best thing for HS engineering. Seriously... Also, as a high school student, NEVER rely on other people for your research, you'll never get it. But there is a facebook group named something along the lines of "I'm not a heroin addict, I'm a fencer" or some combination of those words

I don't know what the project is, but being able to conduct a viable investigation is impossible under the circumstances you've set for yourself. What is the project, anyway?

It's not a shop but they aren't telling you everything.

The sentence should read "There was no permanent damage AFTER HE HAD TWO SURGERIES ON IT". I believe it did tear up some of the ligaments, which is what the surgery was for, but don't quote me on that.

That said, he fenced at Epeepalooza this weekend and I asked to see his hand and you couldn't really see much. He said it was like new and he doesn't have any issues with it (again, post-surgery).
