I probably can't make the Atlanta NAC so I thought the Crescent City Open would be a great tournie and a chance to see New Orleans. It appears it hasn't happened for a couple years. Is the CCO dead?
I know the last couple of seasons it wound up opposite SYCs in Houston, which drained down the referee cadre normally available just to the east and northeast of them.

The last two years there have also been major storms in the northeast that canceled/delayed a lot of flights the weekend of the tourney. If I recall correctly there were 80ish foil fencers signed up before the 08 tournament.
Hopefully. I enjoyed last year's event and would like to do it again...
What would really be sweet is to schedule it the long weekend of JazzFest...but they'd have to announce really far in advance so everyone could get a hotel room. Two birds with one stone....
I talked with one of the organizers of the Crescent City Open and they're looking for a new weekend for it. The mid-March date conflicted with too many other things.
It's tentatively scheduled for the weekend after Thanksgiving weekend, but they're also looking at Halloween weekend. In either case, they want to avoid scheduling on the same weekend as a Saints home game.
Opposite a D1/Vet NAC? That doesn't sound well-planned.

Then it probably won't be that weekend, unless that turns out to be the least of competing evils. I'm sure they'll figure that out when they start looking a little closer.
Anytime after mid-November is going to be difficult anyway, but I guess they feel Fall has more opportunities than Spring.
I'm surprised they were able to put it together so soon after Katrina. Really, it's only three years. I noticed that they only had a few people listed from Tulane fencing club, the other clubs I didn't recognize and wondered where everyone went. The others probably went to help them out, I noticed lots of ratings on the list. Speaking of my favorite city in the world..... I saw an excellent film that was taped by a young woman and her family in the 9th ward, which is I believe located just below the area where that barge had hit the levee near the industrial canal a few years back and before Katrina hit. When I saw that I freaked. It was a great movie, seeing the "Mighty Mississippi River" fly down the streets like that was incredible. So, I think their ability to actually bring together a fencing event is remarkable. I haven't seen very much in the was of fencing for quite some time. Most of the people I knew have moved.
but, PS. Maybe another venue for Louisiana fencing could be in Baton Rouge, or Lafayette, or Lafitte. I remember years and years ago fencing in Lafayette, Lafitte - I think- and definetly Baton Rouge - it's a great alternative - some of the smaller town are really very nice and can handle a mid size event.

the crescent city open is always held on st patty's day weekend. So my guess is they're not having it. THe Crescent City has been held every year except during the year of Katrina, the damage from that isn't a problem anymore. (and Gustav was much more devastating than Katrina, doesn't anyone care about that?)
Our problem is, the state of Louisiana now has NO RATED REFEREES. The two we had decided to retire.
Further, the CCO is a tourny the New Orleans club has, not the division. The Lafayette club was shut down, and there is a new one around that area, but they don't have their own venue yet. Baton Rouge is NOT equipped to hold a tournament the size of the CCO, even if we didn't have the ref problem.
However, if you'd like to come to Louisiana, keep a check out on askfred, we've been holding more tournaments at BRFC than any where else this year.
He's also got a couple of kids who are doing quite well. However, they're in the ARK-LA-MISS Division, which is in some ways (and not others) very very distinct than the Louisiana Division. Which includes parts of Mississippi.

true, but the reference was made to the state of lousiana, not the divisions
