    Television Exposure!!!

I was just browsing the CFF website and came across the following:

"The Canadian Fencing Federation is currently developing a one-hour CBC Sports Weekend fencing spot, that will not only promote fencing in Canada, but showcase current Canadian Fencers. This without question is the single largest promotional event in the organization's history. This event will benefit all levels of the organization, from the Clubs to the National body in the exposure it will create".

"The event itself will be the repackaging of our new "Elite Nationals", that will be held and televised from the CBC headquarters in downtown Toronto. This event, in brief, is a showcase of the best in Canadian fencing, and will take place in a one-day event, where only the top sixteen in each weapon are invited to participate."

The event is scheduled for January 11, 2003. I don't know when the broadcast date is, but I will certainly keep my eyes open for it.

Now I really do have a reason to get my VCR fixed!

Where is USFA on this? If the CFF can do this (and bless'em for their success), where's USFA's status on doing something like this?

Instead, we get our "Elite" National held at some smokey join in...gak! Louisville KY. Men's Sabre gold medal bout held on strip 24 at the back wall. That's showing off your top talent, eh?

A friend of mine who went to the World Championships told me that after seeing how it's really done, she's terribly disappointed with the way USFA runs tournaments. Ok, that's the world championships. But, I can bet that the US's Superbowl is staged with as much, if not more, elaborate bells and whistles as the Soccer World Cup. I'll bet the US Gymnastics Championships are done to the same standards as the World Championships. The US ice skating championships are done to the same standards as the world ice skating championships. And so on.

I hope it's not going to be aired 3 o'clock am in each Monday morning.
