NAC E - Sport Psychology Workshops

We're currently working with Dr. John Heil on a series of sport psychology workshops that we will host at the host hotel (the Omni). The current plan is to have 2 sessions each on the Saturday and Sunday of the Atlanta NAC with the morning session being focused on goal setting and the afternoon session focused on mental training and psychological preparation for competition.

In order to provide the best experience the seating is limited to 30 per session. For more information and to sign up: Fencing Sport Psychology Workshops

If you have questions or suggestions, please pm me (or send me an email) or you can ask in the thread.

Would fencers here be interested in a teleseminar on sport psychology and fencing hosted by us and Dr. Heil? I can probably get that set up in the next week or so.

Too bad they are not at night...The times make it hard for people fencing those days! Great idea, though.

What they really need to do is to promote an online sport psychology workshop. That way even if people aren't going to NAC they can still learn the information.

    A webinar would be nice.

The idea we had was to have the same seminars both days so that you could be fencing one day and attend the seminar(s) the next. It's also a way for parents to come learn about sport psychology while their kids are fencing.

With the hotels, the night times are a bit more expensive for renting the space out. The day rates are enough as it is!

A webinar would be a good thing also. Thanks for the suggestion. We'll look into how to pull that off.

I don't mean to criticize. I think it's an excellent idea. For me, personally, it will be hard to attend because I am fencing on both those days (it's possible I could be done before the afternoon ones, but not with enough certainty to pre-register). However, I am sure enough people will be able to get something out of this to make it worthwhile for both the organizers and the fencers.

These sound great. There is a real need for something like this. For those of use who won't be able to attend the NAC, will there be a workbook of some sort that could be purchased? It's not the same as getting the info first hand, but would be nice to have to work through with a coach.

This is a great idea. Hopefully the seminar will be well attended and worthwhile but if the intention is to target parents, this isn't the appropriate NAC.

Actually, a Div II/III is rife with parents, often standing at the side of the strip saying loudly, "But that referee is wrong! My child should have gotten that touch!" and threatening to storm over to the bout committee on their progeny's behalf. Their children are generally at the age where the parents would benefit from having something else to do with their time than suffer while watching their children (or argue with them afterwards).

Speaking of which, I should have leaflets made up and walk around encouraging all the parents to start fencing themselves.

At least three of the Vet 50 W-Epee fencers who will be in Atlanta (including me) started fencing because our kids were fencing...but our kids have stopped fencing and there we are still! (I am sure there are many more.)

Yeah--as you probably know, the same is true for me.

    Craig,

Can you give us a sense of how many people have signed up? I'm considering going, as I'm free on Saturday, but $155 for four hours seems like a steep price. Any chance you'll bring the price down?

    Tomas,

The USFA was able to offer us a much better rate for hosting the workshops, so we may be able to offer it at a lower price. Dr. Heil and I need to discuss pricing now that we can adjust our costs.

Those on the forums, can you let me know if you would be interested in attending? We're limiting the space to 30 people per session so that everyone can get the most out of it.

(Just PM or reply if you would be interested.)

    Craig
