Array Bananas grow up from their stems, not down as we see them hanging on those banana hooks that some people have in their kitchens.
It's actually easier to peel a banana by pinching the top (as it grows) where the flower broke off than by trying to break the stem (which has to be pretty strong to hold up such a heavy fruit!). Don't believe it? Try it sometime and see how much easier it is. -

Getting back... the half circle type of skinning knife is a style of knife that dates back thousands of years. It's perfect in it's design, so very little has changed pretty much since we started hunting animals. The first ones were sharp stones, as time went by we used other materials such as metal.
*A small side note.... I prefer this style as it fits nicely in my hand and doesn't slip when your hands are cold and/or wet. I got to handle a stone version dating back 3,000 -6,000 years. It felt exactly the same, it even had a notch in the same place to keep your hand from slipping. It was really cool.... Captain Bligh was the commander of the Bounty at the time of the mutiny.
Later he was made Governor of New South Wales, and there was another mutiny against him. -

Array Similar to that style.
The oldest, still flying Boeing airplane is in Spokane WA. The passengers got a closed cabin, while the pilot sat in an open cockpit... so he stays awake. Beer, it's whats for dinner! ~ a young snowboarding Canadian The meek don't want it! ~ sticker on a rock band's guitar -

Array Capitan Cook's maps (from the 1700's) were so accurate that some of them, you can overlay over today's satellite images and the lines match up. Many were still in use into the mid 20th century. (hehehe) Or that the line "Beam me up, Scotty" was never uttered in the entire Star Trek Original Series. It wasn't. The closest that they came was "Scotty, beam me up." -

Don't believe it? Try it sometime and see how much easier it is. They grow up, though, and as the fruits get heavier often fall to the side, hence the 'growing down' thing. We had a banana tree for a long time.
