Array Epee 'invitational' series; grand prize $1,000 http://askfred.net/Events/moreInfo.p...nament_id=7587 ((link corrected))
Allstar Limousine Invitational. ... Not just a regional event.
RE INFO BELOW: contrary to some bad information that might still be circulating, this series of events does offer $150 top prize for each of the preliminaries over the next few months, ending with an invitational (based on accumulated points) worth $1,000.

You may have linked to the wrong tournament... I do not see a mention of a prize anywhere... nor the 'invitational' status...
You may want to either correct the link, or post more detailed info on the tournament in question... -

Array I figure $150 for first place in the early events (circuit point-wise) pays for travel expenses, and second and third place money isn't anything to sneeze at -- winning *any* money in U.S. fencing at this level is worth bragging rights.
And if you've got an eye on the $1,000 top finish later in the series, well ... gotta rack up a few qualifying points before then.
It's worth noting that the team events are not club-specific. Any three or four fencers can declare themselves a team for the day.
(If the money isn't enough of an impetus, it's at least going to make for a steady practice run into Summer Nat's.)
I'm expecting a decent turnout, but I've misjudged human nature often enough to mistrust my own assessment.

:-) I never said what kind of travel. ... So start hitchhiking already. Sheesh.
((Quick check on Orbitz: cheapest round-trip for the weekend from Philly to OKC, $210-ish, via Continental Air. So maybe a good fencer could win enough to help him defray a good portion of the travel costs, eh?)) -

Array Mmmm. I just received an email from the tournament organizers with a different prize structure than the one listed on FRED. The email lists the prizes as:
1st place: $ 75 per individual event - $1000 for Championship
2nd place: $ 50 per individual event - $ 500 for Championship
3rd place: $ 25 per individual event - $ 250 for Championship
No change for the Championship, but the regular season events are noticeably lower. Good luck getting to OK City from Philly (or most of the rest of the country) on a $75 prize. Especially when $55 goes to the entry fee. Second place doesn't even cover his/her entry.
I've dropped a reply to the organizers alerting them to the discrepency.

If I remember correctly, after the structure was decided the sponsor upped the prize values. Jerry probably sent the original material accidentally. UPDATE: I just received confirmation from the person behind the e-mail, "I've fixed the flyer information." So, yes, the askFRED values are correct -- $150 for first place in the prelims. ... I don't suppose you'd be so kind as to delete the bad figures from your own post, above, so as to not further confuse folks?
And it's nice to know you're interested enough to stay on top of the details. I look forward to seeing you at the competition. :-)

c) It's still in OK City. :)

Array UPDATE BUMP: We're down to about two weeks now. Looks like this first individual event on Saturday will easily break into Group-A1 status, given the registrations already paid and those who have verbally committed.
(Expecting some of the teams for Sunday's competition to take care of their fees this week as well, so it's not left hanging in limbo for others who might be interested.)
It's worth noting that according to the rules, "Registration for the individual event is limited to 28 fencers on a first come, first serve basis. ... Registration will close one week prior to each circuit event." Unless the organizers make an extension, the deadline is this weekend (Sat.17th). Also: Registration for the second event, in February, is now open on askFRED.
