A good way to drive people away from your site is to call yourselves "Elite".

You promoted this site before in August right after the Olympic events, again at the end of August. In fact, 5 of your 6 posts here have been promoting this ning site, yet in the 3-4 full months between attempts to promote your new ning, no content has been added to this site. (In fact, I can't find any changes.)

If you really want to build a community site, then you'll need to first build out the content. I was publishing content on Fencing.Net via the web and email newsletters for almost a year before starting up forums.

Check out what Dan Kellner is doing - He's providing value to fencing.net readers and both sites are benefitting from the content and discussion taking place.

Before attempting to self-promote a site that may only be half-baked, first figure out (1) What value are you providing (2) How are you delivering that value in a way that is unique. Also, look at Dan's blog and Tim's site (tenthousandfencers.com) to see how they are approaching it.

There's room on the web for other points of view on fencing that can all mesh together (as Dan's and Tim's sites show.)
