Petition for Time Warp to feature fencing on their show So for those of you who don't know, Discovery Channel has a new show called "Time Warp" which features a team of photographers with a high-speed video camera who go around and film super fast things, and slow them down for us to see.
So far, this show has featured everything from water droplets and arrows piercing water balloons, to fireworks, non-Newtonian fluids, someone taking a punch, and bullwhips breaking the sound barrier. It's a really cool show and I'd suggest checking it out either way.
ANYWAY - the reason I'm starting this thread is to try to get the show to do a segment on fencing. I think it would be pretty sweet to see how the blades move through the air and the motions of the fencer's bodies in super slow motion. If you think this would pretty cool too, check out this post on discovery channel's Time Warp suggestion thread and if you like the idea please leave a comment or give it 5 stars! http://community.discovery.com/eve/f...9/m/9651988599
PS: yeah, I wrote the second post on there - and yes I'm from NWFC and am probably being a bit biased...but if your club is closer to where Time Warp operates, by all means let them know! I just want to see some kick-@$$ slow-motion fencing! :-)

Array I wrote a couple of letters to "Sport Science," suggesting much the same thing. -

Array Once upon a time I came across some very excellent stop frame photos of Eric Dew and a few other people fencing foil. The reaction of the blade was pretty awesome in still frames. In full motion it would be even better. If you sent a PM to Eric, or he sees this thread, maybe he can give you permission to sent the photos or link to the site they are on. It would certainly help the case if they saw how interesting it is. Also some shots on an epee fleche hitting the target and the impact of fencers lunging and fleching in the muscles of the legs and thighs should be pretty cool as well. Just another lost soul saved by the (hit) First Church of EPEE!

Array we could probably have a whole set of threads for who we would like to see, what weapons should be featured...
and what shoes they should wear.
.
I had no idea about the show until I saw thid thread and checked it out.

I hope they pay homage to Harold Edgerton, the man who perfected high-speed stroboscopic photography. He was the first to photograph bullets, arrows, and the like. One of my favorites is "Making Applesauce," a photo of a bullet (.30 cal. I believe) going through an apple. You can look him up on wikipedia and follow some of the links to find his pictures. The spirit is willing, but the fleche is weak. Similar Threads -
