Leon Paul Foil Tips Been having a problem with off target lights when beating the blade with the standard Leon Paul foil tips. Three different weapons. Disassembling the tips I found no problems but when reassembled they work for a short time before getting the off target lights again. Reading this forums it is recommended to clean the tips to remove dirt. Is this dirt visible? Also Leon paul has a new plastic sleeve.

Anyone know if this will fix the problem? There is also a complete tip.

Thanks

Array Replace the screws and the spring and I think you will find your problems are gone. The screws wear down with time and the LP springs tend to get soft over time. Replacing springs and screws should be part of standard maintenance with the LP points. Just another lost soul saved by the (hit) First Church of EPEE!

Array Clean them, particularly the top of the flange that keeps contact with the screws and spring. -
Originally Posted by erooMynohtnA Clean them, particularly the top of the flange that keeps contact with the screws and spring. What he said. Use some sandpaper and brush the bottom of the tip, where it would touch the contact in the plastic cup at the top of the foil wire. Use a cotton bud (yankies call them q-tips?) dipped in nail varnish remover (acetone?) to get the gunk off and the contacts shiny. Sandpaper the two ends of the spring. Clean with cotton buds and nail varnish remover along with the points of contact on the tip itself and the shaft of the tip, too.
Dip the cotton bud in the nail varnish remover, pop it into the barrel and twisty-twist it. When you take it out there will be black gunk, which means you're cleaning it. Switch to the other end of the cotton bud and do it again, making sure you also clean the contact at the bottom of the barrel and the screw holes.
Use a dry cotton bud to get the inside of the barrel nice and shiny. Now's a good chance to check if the barrel isn't loose. Reassemble. If everything's in place it should be nice but may require a twist or two of the tip to scrape the contact on the spring or thwap it off the floor.
These are nice tips, but do require regular cleaning.

Array True, but I've yet to have any issues using acetone, as long as you do it quickly. I've used it for cleaning glue off plastic parts in the past, and as long as you move fast, it's fine.
Dip one end in acetone, swab it around the barrel, then dip the dry end in. "When Fascism comes to America, it will come wrapped in the flag and bearing a cross." Similar Threads -
