    Lame cleaning

I have been given an older foil lame that has oxidized. It is turning green, so I am assuming the base is copper.

What process to clean and de-oxidize so that it does not register off targets?

Hmmm....it may be a lost causeat this point, but go to my website (see my signature block) and go down the front page....there's a link to washing instructions there.

Pay special attention to the collar....since that can come into direct contact with the skin (and therefore, sweat and salt), that's where corrosion typically starts.

After it's dry, throw an ohmmeter on it...so long as the resistance is no more than 5 ohm at any point, it'll pass.

Keep in mind that the boxes will fire witha LOT more resistance present in various parts of the system than the rules allow....but less is better.

Put ketchup on it. If that doesn't work, fence epee.

Thanks For the information. Will give the cleaning a try.

Can't spill katchup (imitation blood) and go to the epee. The lame was given to our club and I got delegated to try and clean it.

I'm inclined to agree with Purple Fencer - it may be too late to save this particular lame. However if that's the case then there probably isn't much to loose by trying some of the treatments discussed in this thread from a few years back.

    99% chance it's too late
    It's relative.
