    Mystery Visconti (Name That Grip)

So once upon a time, I bought a tantalizingly cheap epee off eBay. Sure enough, it was almost worthless (the blade broke when I was making sure it had the casual bend in it before a bout), but what a nice grip! It's more robust than most other Visconti grips. What I really like about it is that the bottom part is fat, which compliments my freakishly short ring and pinky fingers (size 9), making proper "finger snap" flicks considerably easier for me. Does anyone know where I can get another one of these?

    I've attached pictures.

Allstar makes one like this. I realize this isn't their's... but they make a very comfortable pistol grip.

Not entirely sure, but the cross-hatching on the nose makes me think it's a Negrini...or an unmarked knockoff...

Is the Allstar the same as the Uhlmann? I have an Uhlmann visconti, and it is more "Belgian" (more pressure on the bottom of the middle finger, and less to grip on with my ring and pinky fingers) than this grip, and I don't like it very much.

That looks really similar to the style that Physical Chess and Santelli were using ten years ago or so.

So, no, I don't know where you can get any more. Sorry.

It seems you and I both really like certain Visconti variations. You should go to a vendor and check out their grips. Within viscontis there is a wide variety of subtle variations, and you never know which one you'll get exactly, because they're all classified as Visconti.

If you really like it, see if someone can make a cast off of it and make your own.

It looks similiar to some of the Blade/Physical Chess grips. I would check those out, they are probably going to come pretty close if not being the exact thing. If the blade it came with was a Fleche or one of the no stamp Chinese blades (IE not Absolute/BG/SG/Etc), the chances of it coming from them go up even more. They sell a lot on ebay, along with a related company, Fencesmart.

Well I think you all wrong. It is a last generation Leon Paul medium 85 NI which some one has added some criss cross saw marks. We have at least one non insulated and probably some insulated ones.

The new generation ones are similar but with the thumb up ward spine further over.

see http://www.leonpaul.com/acatalog/Epee_Handles.html this shows the picture of the old type so if you want exactly that you would need to email sales and we will see what we can do. You might have to add the saw cuts by hand yourself.

    I didn't see a maker's mark anywhere..which is why I thought it was a knock-off.

It does look like those from Physical Chess, and I have a bunch of new ones I'd like to get rid of (size large). I don't use pistols anymore.

I'll dig them out of storage and compare them to the pics, but it looks just like them.

Curious as to why you never did before...how much more would it have taken to carve "LP" into the master?

'Course, I ALSo wonder why NO one marks the sizes....sometimes it's difficult to tell V1 from a V2.

I think it might be the Physical Chess "brand." I purchased the epee in an ebay "lot" of 2 foils, and 2 epees. I bought it from an individual, not directly from Physical Chess, but I think that he got the weapons from Physical Chess, because some of the weapons had the "Physical Chess" sticker on the inside of the guard (though the weapon in question did not), and all the weapons had the same leather Estoc pads, and 2 of them had identical French grips.

As far as I can tell, it seems that PC just sort of gathers random generic parts. One of the foils in that lot has a visconti that isn't like the one on the epee. Even the stamps on the epee blades weren't identical.

Rick: Thanks for the offer, but I have small/medium hands.

FWIW, I don't care for the changes. I think you already had it exactly right.

Just went to the Blade Website, and they have grips on their epee pictures that look quite similar. I'll shoot them an email, and hope for the best. Then I can start stockpiling...
