Array Coupe du Nord schedule in tournaments board I've posted the Coupe du Nord sabre circuit schedule (say that three times fast) on the tournaments and camps board. These are pretty high quallity tournaments (FIE satellite), but not as overwhelming as FIE Grand Prix tournaments.
You can also get more information from the Coupe du Nord website: http://www.coupedunord.freewebsites.com/

Array Mark - what's a "sabre overlay" check? That's listed in the equipment check specs.
I notice only a couple of USA names on the final results from last year--do they get many from North America? -

Array Delia,
Equipment checks tend to be a little bit looser than they are in the US--I've been to the Amsterdam Coupe de Nord twice, and just had to do basic mask, lame and over-glove conductivity and inspection tests, and have my sabres verified as S2000 blades.
I would guess that a sabre overlay would be a quick check of bell size and blade bend versus a template.
Some Americans generally show up--most of the crowd tends to be Brits, Dutch, Belgiques and Scandanavian. Actually a very friendly bunch.
I'm unfortunately not going to be able to make Amsterdam this year--my training schedule is shot and I've started a distance learning masters program...

Array You won't be there? Darn, maybe I'll reconsider the idea of going <g>. Good luck on the masters program.
Actually, I'm sort of vaguely thinking about going to one, if not this year, maybe next. My husband wants to go abroad again (I sent him to England last year, because he'd never been) but would prefer to go with me, and if I can figure when I wouldn't have to be teaching I'd do it. The June ones sound promising but awfully close to the U.S. Summer Nationals. -

Array Have you also added these to the calendar? If not, then feel free to add them on as 'public events'.

Array Sabre overlay check means checking the overglove conductivity -- same as what our armourers check.
I have been going to these tournaments for years, and they are very good, very well run and much fun! Plus, it's a good excuse to visit Europe (if you haven't been there, I would highly recommend visits to Holland, Denmark, Iceland, Germany and Sweden -- and of course, the rest -- I just haven't gotten there yet, so I can't recommend them ) Plus, the most interesting think I can say is that Copenhagen is like a European version of Greenwich Village, which while giving it a European flair, also gives you the feeling of home (of course, only if you have spent much time and/or lived in the Village and consider it home .
As to airline bargains: Scandinavian Airlines usually has a winter weekend getaway special, which for about $300 gives you airfare and hotel for the weekend -- it makes the Copenhagen competition extremely cost effective! Plus, the bonus is that the hotel is located so close to the venue -- you can take a cheap cab ride or a long walk to get there! The other Airline bargain is with Iceland air. When you fly Iceland air to any destination to Europe, they give you the option to stay over in Iceland for up to 3 days, with a hotel fee of about $40, so you can arrange your travel to do the competition and then continue on to Europe for a vacation.
Also, just to mention, the Coupe du Nord circuit is for sabre; however, Normann has been instrumental in helping the epeeists to also get satellite events on the FIE calendar. Any epeeists interested in competing in Europe in a high level competition, but yet, not as intimidating as a World Cup, should try these. For this year, they have 2 in Denmark, 1 in Norway and 1 in Finland. You can find the dates on the USFA page for World Cup competitions, and you can find the invitations for the competitions on the FIE website. -

Well, the Mannheim tournament in May is at my home club--if someone wanted to come over and do a European sabre week, they could fence at the tournament in Ghent the previous weekend, then come to Mannheim the next week for another.
Hard on your legs though.
It'd be great to see some of the folks I talk to on the web there.
