SYC/RYC Schedule Posted The SYC/RYC schedule is posted on the USFA website.
Is this a work in progress? Or is this the final schedule? http://www.usfencing.org/usfa/compon...einfo/id,2003/ -

Array Looks very much like a work-in-progress schedule.

-B Yeah. Like a lot. A bit disconcerting to look on there and not see the RYC that my club is hosting in the spring. Just another lost soul saved by the (hit) First Church of EPEE!

Array Southeast wasn't included but I though Kathy Vail had sent the information to Andrea:
Dec. 6th and 7th at Atlanta Fencers Club (GA)
March 28th and 29th at Athletic Club NE (GA)
April 11th at Birmingham FC (AL)
Another issue. BFC set our tournament schedule early and now out scheduled RYC is the same date as the Super Youth in Louisville. It looks like we will need to change dates, or maybe cancel. The two others are fairly close. -
SYC/RYC sked - Boston area SYC??? Does anyone know if Prise de Fer is hosting a SYC. I know they have done separate ones for boys and girls for the past two years. I'd love to know the proposed dates. TIA -

Array File is apparently no longer available for download. That's it, I'm done with the discussion forums on F.net. It's had its uses, but the ideologues, ranters, and "experts" have drowned too many of the conversations. I'm changing my password to something random and never logging in again. -

Disaster, thank you for the kind words. We work hard to make it a great event for the kids. I hope we'll see you in the spring.
More details will be posted to prisedefer.com shortly. AskFRED pages for the tournaments should be up within a week.
I'll post the URLs of the FRED pages once they exist.

-w Wayne,
I know it's far away but because of many weekends being taken, including these two weekends for SYC's, the North Atlantic division had it's Summer National's Qualifier for Jr and Cadet AFTER the deadline for SN last season. Do you know if you are working on getting this year's Qualifier date set up so that same thing doesn't happen? The SYC dates made me think of that...not that I'm planning this far in advance. -

We also have the RYC happening down here next month :-)
The Barbara Lynch Annual Charity RYC...last year we had almost 300 kids and are expecting close to 400 this year.

We're trying.
Senior Sectionals dates are set (preliminary info on nas-usfa.org).
The Junior / Cadet event is in Western NY this year. I've been in touch with Chuck Farnsworth (WNY Div. Chair) trying to hammer down a venue. His first choice is Rochester, and they had their SYC to run, so things were a little busy for them... he is going to get with them over the next couple weeks and hammer something out. Unless last year (everything falling apart) happens again, expect Jr./Cdt. Sectionals to be held one of the middle two (11th & 12th or 18th & 19th) of April. I realize that the 12th is both Easter and the middle of Passover, so we're trying to avoid that. Hopefully we'll be holding the event on the 18th & 19th of April, but we don't know yet. As soon as I have the info I'll post it to the section site and distribute it to all the division Executive Boards.
Junior / Cadet Sectionals is difficult to schedule because it is a big event (we need 22-24 strips) and of all the events in the spring (SYCs, NACs, Summer National Qualifiers), not to mention other non-fencing conflicts (Easter, Passover, SAT exams, etc.)

It takes people who really know what they are doing to pull off two related SYC events a few weeks apart, and the folks at Prise de Fer have shown consistently that they've got it. The Dana Hall venue is the best our family has seen for a SYC. A big part of what makes the whole experience so pleasant is that Prise de Fer is not attempting to cram +/- 400 youth fencers (with coaches and parents) in 18 events into a single weekend. I sympathize with any family with both a son and daughter fencing, as they would have to make the same trip on separate weekends. But I think Prise de Fer has developed a model for a much more sane approach to SYC event scheduling that I hope to see adopted more widely in the future, such as eliminating the Friday evening events (and all the associated problems) and providing more time between the start of events that can be expected to draw some of the same fencers (e.g., Y12 and Y10 in a single weapon). If youth fencing continues to grow, more creative solutions like this will be needed. Kudos to Prise de Fer. -

-w Thank you for taking "non-fencing conflicts" into consideration. I know how difficult it must be to plan these events and want you to know that your careful planning is very much appreciated!! I just looked at the SYC/RYC schedule and noticed that the SYC in Kentucky will be held over Easter weekend which I'm sure will cost them quite a few fencers!! -
