Fencing master wanted in Denmark

Fencing Club Trekanten is looking for a dynamic person who has a diploma as a fencing master and who is comfortable in teaching both foil and epee. Knowledge of sabre is appreciated but not a requirement.

The club
Trekanten is an eighty-year-old fencing club situated in Copenhagen, Denmark. It is one of the largest fencing clubs in Scandinavia with close to 250 members of whom 150 members are under fifteen. Among the clubs fencers are some of Denmark’s finest foil and epee fencers, who regularly compete at world cups, championships and other large international events. It is imperative for the club to do well at tournaments and championships. Trekanten has several modern pentathletes with two of them currently being Nordic Champions.

The achievements and high level of fencing in Trekanten is largely made possible by a strong group of volunteers. The clubs instructors are mostly a voluntary work force that takes care of the many young fencers, adult beginners and the group of intermediate fencers. The club is constantly supporting its staff to improve their fencing skills in close cooperation with the Danish Fencing Federation, other international federations and institutions.

You will be:
• Training fencers on all levels and age groups.
• Taking part in the development of the clubs long-term strategy and elite policies together with the board of the club.
• Responsible for organizational duties such as structuring the training, planning and participating in tournaments in cooperation with the rest of the staff.
• Responsible for planning the education of the voluntary instructors.
• In possession of good English skills.

Information
The position is full-time and is vacant from January 2009. Daily working hours will primarily be from the afternoon and throughout the evening.

You must be able to relocate to Copenhagen. Assistance will be given in finding suitable accommodation if needed.

Thanks for posting this position on f.net. If I didn't have family commitments here in the USA, I would apply for this position. It would be wonderful to live and coach in Copenhagen. I hope that some of my American colleagues will consider this position...especially some of the more successful ones. I have seen Danish fencers at recent junior world cup events. They are of high quality. Copenhagen regularly hosts a Senior Men's Foil World Cup. My son attended last year, and said it was a well run event. Your volunteers seem to be very dedicated.

A friend of mine had worked 2 years for this fencing club, he was very disapointed about the behaviour of the board. This club seems to change very often of fencing master, or maybe it's the fencing master who stop very fast. On the french fencing forum it's possible to find article about that.
