    Durability of LP Kolobkov Pro.

I apologize if this is a repeat, but I was wondering if anyone has experience with how the Kolobkov Pro blades compare to the other LP non-FIE or FIE epee blades in terms of durability. (I read the review on f.net.)

I've been using the LP non-FIE blades and really appreciate the beating they can take while rarely even requiring any adjusting. Nonetheless, I prefer the feel of the white BF and to a lesser extent the STM blades though I wouldn't mind cutting a little weight.

The K-Pro seems like a good choice, but given the price, I'd like to know I won't blow through it overnight.

Also, does anyone know what the situation is with consistent availability? Though they're in stock now, I've seen them out of stock for quite some time.

Availability is come and go This batch will be gone within the week I suspect.

Re durability they are not as durable as the LP maraging or the Viniti but are more durable than BF.

We have only had one back under complaint so far.

I assume you're talking about James Faine's review. Here are some others: http://www.fencing.net/reviews/censu...ils&itemid=465

All I've heard of it (not that much, mind you) has been glowing in terms of feel and durability. I haven't heard any people recommending them as the tanks Vnitis and normal LPs are, but I haven't heard any stories about them breaking after a week like some BFs.

I wouldn't say it's a bargain, like a Vniti or LP (if you like the feel), but that everyone feels like they get their money's worth. (Unlike Priuer, StM, or BF sometimes)

I have a feeling the peening helps a lot. It not only reduces surface defects, but it alters the crystalline structure of the metal to actually make it more durable. I think it's something that would be a good idea in all blades. If BF did it (or anyone else, for that matter), I bet they'd greatly increase blade life. It's not a complicated process, either. Hats off to LP for the innovation.

As stated, not as durable as the normal LP. It all depends on what you want and what aspects of a blade you prioritize. If someone every really does come up with a blade that has the feel and weight of a BF and the durability of a Vniti or standard LP for less money then there will be much rejoicing among epeeists and everyone else is pretty much out of the epee business. Until then, you have to pick which blade traits are most important to you.

I have been through 2 K-Pro and somewhat more BF blades.

In my experience, the K-Pro lasts about the same as a BF.

OTOH, the BFs tend to get a bit soft before they go. The K-pro blades do not, so it is more of a surprise when they break.

If you want to save significant money over a K-Pro, check out the LM branded blades. Same forge (LM), same design, same wonderful feel. Lacks the engraved endorsement, surface peening, and LP points.

If you buy LMs, but like the LP points as much as I do, you will have to wire your own.

Do you have any sense when the next batch will be available? Is it likely they'll be available on a more regular basis in the future?

Probably we will only have around 50 per 2 months to sell I am afraid.

Seconded. I got three K-pro blades last summer. One broke within a month the other lasted 3 months and the other a little of six months. The last break was pretty impressive as the blade snapped in two places. Given the amount I fence this is pretty poor durability - my other blades are all early 90's vintage! I certainly wouldn't recommend them unless you absolutely love the feel of them.
    au revoir
