Array tips for keeping contact spring in place? I have two new-ish epee blades with FWF 2008 FIE German epee tips, and for some reason the contact spring keeps screwing in so that by the end of 2 practices I practically have to push the tip completely down to register a hit. Does anyone have some simple advice to how to get my German contact springs to stay in place in my German point?

Array Unfortunately, that's part of epee...you could always make sure it's set properly and put a drop of superglue to hold the spring in place....but if you do a rewire, there's no guarantee it'll pass....and if it doesn't, there will be no way of correcting it short of installing a brand new tip. -
All the German Epee points (I think) rely on the contact spring remaining in place due to friction between the thread which the contact spring is screwed on to and the spring. If it is unscrewing due to vibrations you could try a replacement contact spring. (it might grip the thread slightly tighter) you could glue it in the correct position using a flexible glue like Bostick.
Leon Paul solve this problem by engineering a groove in the offending thread which as the contact spring is wound into place lets the first coil of the spring fall into it. The spring is now locked into place and the spring cannot be unwound. ( replacing it is only possible by pulling out the spring with a pair of pliers.) The spring, if the engineering tolerances are correct, should be set correctly, if not it can be stretched or compressed slightly to get the correct travel ( see instruction on our web site.) -

Array Rather than super glue as Sam suggested, I would use loctite as it is not as permanent.
But whichever solution to use be very, very careful.
Any glue-type substance can ruin your whole day if you use to much and get it inside the barrel.
Also if it does even partial insulation between the travel spring and the tip, you could have a VERY bad day.

Array It may also be a good idea to fit a new contact spring before gluing (or lock-tite) it in place. New springs don't cost that much and if the old spring is as loose as you say then I'm not certain if ANY glue would be enough to keep it from drifting. -

Array If you are using Thread Lock or Loctite, there are several grades, and some are better for high vibration environments. I'd suggest you check their website for info on which one to use. -

Array Thanks for all of the advice, everyone. Just so you know, I have replaced the spring a number of times already in an effort to find one that will stay in place. Using flexible glue might be the solution I am looking for... Similar Threads -
