    Post The Obama Show

So, about what has been dubbed both lovingly and contemptuously as "The Obama Show" (the extended 30-minute ad purchased by the Obama campaign covering most major networks)...

Did you love it? Hate it?

Do you think that candidates should be able to do use all things at their disposal, such as this, or that there should be more limitations in place? Opinions? Ideas?

For those of you who have not yet seen the video, if you wish to, you can find it here

(I posted this link on a dial-up connection, so can't verify it's the right video. It should be. If it's not, lemme know so I can re-link!)

How about if I don't care how the candidates spend their money, just how they raise it?

It didn't matter to me either way. It was his money. I didn't watch it. Then again, I don't watch the Home Shopping Network either.

How they raise money it important, and needs to be looked at and regulated.

Looking for large donations means that there's a higher chance for politicians to be "bought".

Looking for little donations means there are more transactions that need to be looked into.

Both have problems, and both need a minimum amount of regulation. I think we've done reasonably in large donations, but now that we're actually seeing the large numbers that make small donations risky, we need to go back and put some rules in place.

I only particularly want one restriction on spending-- I want it well documented enough so that the Daily Show can use it to make fun of people. It can provide interesting information on how a campaign has chosen to use its assets, which I find useful.

On the Obama Show---- my first reaction was "When did Barack Obama replace Ira Glass???"

I liked it, but I also like This American Life.

The Obama special was fine... a little schmaltzy and to me there was no new information in it. But that's ok, because it wasn't really directed at me, it was directed at low- to moderate- information voters, to "moderates" and undecideds. At that I think it was pretty decent.

What I enjoyed was the Rachel Maddow interview... mmm, at least a little taste of wonkishness... more please!

I didn't poll or ask about how they go about raising their money, just if there should be limits on how it's spent. I think almost everyone universally agrees that we should be guarding against unethical methods of raising money....

*shrug* tic poll is flawed, then.

May I direct you to the thread about Palin's clothes, where you express precisely the opposite sentiment?

Are you admitting that you only care how McCain spends his money, and that Obama gets a free pass from you on the issue?

To clarify, the reason I didn't add anything regarding how funds are raised is because it's a somewhat different issue. I called the spending in particular into question because there are some who would argue you then have more ability to "buy" a campaign. This is why I ask about spending limits. I didn't call into question the methods by which Obama or anyone else received there money. Simply calling into question if campaigns (not just Obama's, this is just a good example...) perhaps should have caps on their spending in order to "level the playing field" and so corruption and "buying offices" plays a smaller role.

It's like saying the poll is flawed for not including a poll on gay marriage. The subject at hand pertained directly to my poll, not to how money is raised (i.e., no matter how his money was raised, should he have been able to spend that much campaigning? How doesn't matter in this question.).

To add, I don't necessarily think there should be more regs in place on this. I'm kinda on the fence (I see the logic from both sides), which is why I wanted some boarders opinions.

Fine, you got me -- in that I guess I apparently spoke too tersely in my reply to this thread. Given that Obama's spending was within what I believe is the appropriate scope of a political campaign (unlike the McCain campaign's spending re: Palin), he can do as he pleases with the money he's raised. Better now?

One suggests that "appropriate" hath an overly fungible definition to you.

I shut off Barry Hussein as soon as I heard him spewing his typical crap...which just so happened to be in the first 5 minutes.

I voted flawed, not because I have any opinion about the ad (which I have not seen), nor because I care how US candidates spend their money.

I voted flawed because the poll asked for opinions on 2 different topics.

Well, at least they'll have good health care to cover them if they do go blind.
