Let me just preface this by saying if you are an Olympic fencer, i respect you a lot, you have worked incredibly hard and i hope this in no way undermines all the prestige associated with being an Olympian
I was just going over some footage and saw some guy named Ali (MAR) get rocked by Guyart (FRA) in foil. It was bad, and by bad I mean slightly amusing. What a descprency. Anybody else see some good shut-outs?

ahah, thankfully no paper. I'm done with college. I just started to get interested in fencing again, that's all. I needed a break for a little while.
Unfortunately, because of my time off, these 15-3 whoopings are becoming pretty common place for me... Just need a little time to get my legs under me...

Viaggio (ARG) vs. Zhu (CHN) was also a pretty huge mismatch. Also amusing because the chinese fencer wanted a really ridiculous preparation call at one point, and the (Hungarian) referee, completely deadpan (not very hard, since he's Hungarian), says "Not sabre. En garde".
Also, in response to

Well, you can make fun of them, but they were in the Olympics and you ...

It's perfectly fair to discuss fencing bouts in a fencing forum.

What was tough for me was, i think zhu vs cassara quarter finals. At one point there was such a break down in communication it was unbearable. Zhu kept putting up two fingers, saying "two" "two". Nobody had a friggin clue what he meant. I think what happened was the ref called the touch against China, and then Zhu's intent was to say "okay cassara, now you have two free touches" and be exclusive/cool about, but it ended up being very awkward.
As for people worry about the merit of this thread, that's silly.

Nope, it was a scoreboard error. As I recall, it displayed 12-11 Cassara when it should have said 13-12 Cassara, and Zhu was trying (unsuccessfully) to keep the incorrect score.
The most lopsided fencing I saw was probably in US women's sabre vs. South Africa.
