In saber the lame bib tends is usually the first thing to fail (often within a few years). Therefore a bib which can easily be replaced is a big advantage.

Starting in January 2009 the lower portion of the bib will become target in foil. This means that foilist competing in FIE events will either have to replace the bib on their existing mask or replacing the entire mask. It is much easier to replace the bib on an X-Change mask than with a conventional mask (and to go back if the FIE eventually concludes that it wasn't such a good idea to begin with).

None of this affects épée so the biggest advantage for an X-Change mask in épée is probably that it is easier to keep clean (you can remove all the soft parts and throw them in the washing machine).

    Sizing question

I do have sizing question. My head measure is 65 cm (25.5") (few millimiters more / less) which is the end of Medium size range and begining of the large size range. What size should I order? Medium or large? I do not have any X-Change Counter fit masks around to try.

What size mask are you wearing now? Are mediums usually a bit tight? Are Larges huge?

One of the benefits of the contour fit is that you personalize the mask to give you a very secure feel (while still easy to get on and off!), which makes for easier sizing.

I loved LP comfort fit that I bought two of them (sabre and dry) during college. And my parents didn't pay, either.

I wore a BG Olympic XL. It was lose, but the L was too small, and I couldn't even talk with it on. I wear a Large Xchange, and with some adjustment, it fits perfectly. I'm right at the line between L and XL on the LP size chart.

I would say a medium, myself. I like a tight fit, and even when one fits very snugly, it's pretty easy to get on and off.

Based on my measurement (69-70 cm, close to under my chin and top of my head) I'm a Large. Should I take the Ice padding or anything else in consideration?

The measure tape around the head, should it be tight??

If you're tightening it around your head as tight as possible to make it a smaller size, then no. You wouldn't want your mask that tight.

You should snugly wrap the tape around your head with a light amount of pressure.

    yet another vote for XC

It isnt just better than an Allstar/regular FIE, its 10 times better.

The removable bib is just one component.

Lightness, breathability, xtreme comfort, looks, cleanliness, etc. all favor the X-C mask over anything else.

and its very secure on the head as opposed to the traditional tongue.

    It can't be any better!!!

Oh wait, it can. The cool padding stuff is sublime.
