Leg lifts (and be creative with them) and wall sits...but frankly I however AM a fan of running and can honestly say that I was in my best competitive shape while running fairly long distances (upwards of 5 miles a day) now I try to at the very least use the elliptical for 20 minutes a day if I can't get outside.

Cycling is a good alternative to running.
Swimming too, but it is harder to drown while cycling, unless doing it in a pool.

Maybe doing it in a pool, cycling that is, will get my muscles working a bit?

Although I hear doing it in hot tubs is popular, I am not going to bring it up because I think it would be off toppic.
.
I have a stand for my bike so I can ride inside when it is toooooo nasty out.

There is also a difference in how one cycles - all are exercise - but my Sunday afternoon rides are very different if I am out with my son or doing 30 miles by myself.

You gotta change your routine every once in a while or else you'll get bored with your routine. For example: instead of doing situps, lay down with your back to the floor and raise your legs (keep them straight) and your head and upper body above the floor to make a "V" shape. try to hold that for a minute. or instead of doing squats or lunges, climb stairs.

Change it up so you won't get bored.
