Array congrats!!! You would be remembering today's date. I still remember 6/10/93 same thing; I turned the thesis in to the graduate school registrar. -

Array Congratulations!
There is life after graduate school, I promise. I barely remember the subject of my dissertation and it was only oh my god 1995 that long ago? hmmm.
I'm very impressed by your celerity and efficiency. Way to go! -

Array A little poem to celebrate your release....
Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
From The Poems of Dylan Thomas
Zelda, you have raged, against overwhelming research and nights of aguish, battling over the world of theory and possiblility, only to defend your work and ideas against a bastion of unwaiveringly moronic academics, only to prove your theories true.
May you continue to rage against growing cynicsm, and the dying need for education and advancement our society needs.
My Heartfelt Congradulations, Master Zelda.

Array Thank you very much everyone for you good wishes... for those that want to know, and for those of you that dont my thesis topic was "Risk Factors for Cryptococcus neoformans in Mine Workers in South AFrica, a nested case control study from the Soth African Mine Workers Cohort Study." I today after handing the thing in at 10am (7 hours b4 it was due, a record for me) have been to a wedding and am about to crash the basments toga/pj party. I go home in a week or so to hopefully a field workers position monitoring iodine supplementation programmes. So life is good!!! I will be earning money to spend on fencing gear and no longer raiding the trust fund!!! Theses are evil....VERY evil, someone rescue me pls! -

Array Very cool, Zelda! Congratulations! It seems like you just went to England, though. How long were you there? -

Array Hey Zelda,
Do we call you Master Zelda or Dr. Zelda? With all the work you have put in, I think we should call you Doctor Zelda.
The study of Cryptococcus Neoformans in Coal Miners sounds rather aspicious in nature, considering you are dealing with the possible deterioration of nerve cells. Were you able to establish a causal relationship directly/indirectly linkable to the toxic fumes/chemicals/metals workers would be exposed to in such environments? Uncover other risk factors? Or will there have to be more research to establish a prognosis? Hummmm, sounds interesting.
In the meantime, go out and get pissed as a brit, faded as a yank, sternhagelblau as a kraut and purge any unneeded or inadvertant knowledge that may have creeped into that mind of yourse. Be sure to slap Zac into cleaning your room, and once again....
Congradulations

Array Originally posted by Zelda my thesis topic was "Risk Factors for Cryptococcus neoformans in Mine Workers in South AFrica, a nested case control study from the Soth African Mine Workers Cohort Study." Who will be playing you in the movie? -
Congrats Zelda!!!
Seemed like only yesterday when you were planning your trip for this endeavor!
For me, the year 1988 seems like yesterday and I have no desire to turn the clock back! I live to fence and fence to live!! -

Array Congrats! As a fellow grad. student, although not in anything as remotely useful as your field of study--trust me on this one--, I am insanely jealous. Enjoy yourself at the part(ies). One cat leads to another--Ernest Hemingway.

Array Counter risposte, case fatality with C.neoforms and HIV is very large. Almost gaurnteed if you have had TB before hand. I was looking at how different diseases increased your risk so it was fun to a certain extent.
And to everyone else, yes it does seem like yesteerday I was bemoaning the fact Fedex had impounded my gear and I couldnt fence. I now have th opposite problem, how should I send my gear home???? I have about 3 days to decide!!!!!

Array zelda, you still havent told us what your research was about, specifically, hiv? good luck. i tried to get some people interested in making some donations toward hiv research but they put it into an art project instead. it was really frustrating, i was working so hard on getting their support for a particular project. the art project was, in my opinion, a stupid waste of money. -
