Array Nac A (2008-2009) As of today's confirmed entry list, the largest event is D2MS at 157 entries.
Who would have predicted that sabre would have the largest field?

Did you receive a fax back confirmation? A charge on your credit card?
Reminder (for everyone, not just Coldfire): Today is the deadline for regular-fee registration.

Just curious....Did anybody NOT sign up because the early confirmed-entries lists showed so few people? How do the final (so far) numbers compare to previous NAC A's? -

Some events are up and some are down, but so far, this is not quite 150 more than the final numbers for Tucson last year. Nothing particularly out of the ordinary.

-m It's Div 2, they could be all U beginners. But it is unlikely. -

Having foil on Friday/Monday was pretty lame because of school, that was a reason also. (\ /)

Mary I expected more in every event C-bus is a lot closer to more fencers. Ofcourse maybe we are running out of C and under fencers in Epee Go to the well until the well is dry. When the well is dry find a new well. -

Until the USFA implements a system that updates the online confirmed entry list automatically, it's probably not a great idea to decide whether or not to go based on the entry list on the USFA website. It could be way out of date at times. The national office is a busy group of people, especially where tournament entries are concerned. I'll bet updating that list online takes a low priority at times.

Thanks! I was just curious because the subject came up at the club. Wanted to see if anybody had indeed gone by the early numbers...But if the numbers are up from Tucson (of course, Tucson was farther...from me at least!), then probably the entry postings did not affect anything. -

-p But since some people will judge based on that list, perhaps until the USFA implements a system that updates automatically, they shouldn't post partial lists.

-m I don't see much reason not to post partial lists. Is there a massive disadvantage? "Arm yourself, Watson, there is an evil hand afoot ahead." -- Dennis Pierce, 2010 Bulwer-Lytton contest, detective fiction category runner-up. -

I have heard from a couple of coaches that some of their students didn't register because of the size listed on the website (a small event size and a high entry fee = not worth it). Should the coach in question have been a little more active in reassuring his students? perhaps, but the fact remains that these are entries (and thus revenue) that the USFA didn't get.

Array Given the massive influxes common both at the deadline and frequently slightly after, judging based on a preliminary list seems foolish in the extreme.

That doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Of course, why anyone attending a NAC would worry about the size of the field puzzles me a bit. The majority of fencers will still face 6 opponents in a pool, and then fence 1 DE. -

I have to agree with Brad on this one... seeing a partial list of entrants before the entry deadline should suggest that more are on the way. Deciding not to come based on that doesn't make much sense, especially since there is a note saying that the list is updated weekly.
