Array Hurricane Ike Did you evacuate, and where?
I'll start first. I am in Stillwater, OK. ... without remorse for the past, confident in the present, and full of hope for the future, [d'artagnan] went to bed and slept the sleep of the brave.

Array I stayed. Just south of Houston.
They keep saying on the news that it's been 25 years since we had a hurricane here, so we were overdue. I disagree. I could've waited another 25. Or even 50. I'm not impatient. -

Array I stayed. Right in Houston on the east side of 45. I can see 45 from my yard...
Boarded up windows and stuff. Like 200,000+ people out of power so far. ↕ Embrace both lines.

Array I'm currently in Austin... I live here. I have family in Houston, though, and they all stayed, except for one aunt. (I was in Houston for the last big storm, actually. But it turned out to be a little bit of a dud.)
And one of my other aunts has a house in Galveston. I think it'll go boom this time

Array I'm hearing isolated reports that my little shire has 6 feet of water down the main roads. My house is higher than most, but I am not optimistic. ... without remorse for the past, confident in the present, and full of hope for the future, [d'artagnan] went to bed and slept the sleep of the brave.

Array I was worried again about Louisiana and Texas. I did get an email from a friend in Louisiana before Ike hit, they said they were okay from Gustav. They keep getting hit. In looking at the disaster of Galveston again, I noticed that the homes are on thin pilings. Why not make them studerier and also do they drive them into the ground. See ya later, someone asked me to type a letter for her. The sword of Good and Evil. -

Array I evacuated, from Phoenix to Colorado Springs.
Turned out to be really unnecessary. Use the Shift key, people! Keyboard manufacturers everywhere are ineffably saddened when you ignore what they made just for you! -

Array Has anyone heard from Sclaeger7? He and his wife live in Dickinson, south of Seabrook. I hope they are ok. Anyone from the Clear Lake Fencing Club and Galveston FC, please check in on this post.
I worry about you guys. -

Array From his Gulf Coast forums yesterday on 10:14,
"I just heard from schlager 7 at 1045 Saturday morning. John & Nicole are fine. He said now he knows why people say a willow withstands a storm better than an oak tree - he has lots of branches down and lost a chinese tallow tree. A few shingles are off, but no water in the house. They also have no power...that's why he didn't post this himself.
My family evacuated from Galveston Island to the Mayerich's in College Station. We are fine but have no idea about our house yet......
The Galveston and Clear Lake Fencing Clubs hope that everyone is safe. " ... without remorse for the past, confident in the present, and full of hope for the future, [d'artagnan] went to bed and slept the sleep of the brave.

Array Thanks for the update. I'm glad to hear they're alright. Lost a chinese tallow? Since when is that a loss?!?!?!?
I hope their club equipment is OK, Ed White is pretty close to the water. -

My aunt has a beach house right on the water. It's been through multiple hurricanes the last 25 or thirty years. It's flooded, lost siding, had the whole garage wiped out, lost its septic tank, had the windows blown out (way more than once) had the cement slab at the bottom cracked (also more than once), and lost its stairs, but it's still standing

Was Hurricane Ike's last name Turner, b/c he's been hitting Texas like its Tina. I now dangle to the left....my tassle. Get your minds out of the gutter.

It looks terrible. My house on Jena street in New Orleans was also built up on cement pilings, but not driven into the ground. My feeling is this: I've been in contact with people that I used to practice Buddhsim with the one's who stayed with Temple are doing okay, New Orleans lost nearly all of their Temple members and stayed with SGI. Believe it or not people's religion has a lot to do with what's going one in the world. [read the Rissho Ankoko Ron]. I contacted two other SGI members to bring them back into the temple, but they refused. One is totally a wreck and the other's husband is dying of a rare brain disorder. To me, Religion is like a marriage, once you take your vows that's it. You stick with it. I can't get anywhere with those people, so now, my advice is simply to move closer inland and stay away from the shorelines. The sword of Good and Evil. -

Array So, today we saw the first pictures of her beach house since Ike. It lost a wall on one side, and about a third of the roof, as well as plenty of windows.
But again, it's still standing. It'll be very tough to repair, though. That place used to be like a second home

Array Beach house smeach house. It doesn't work. Read We're going to have to exfoliate the entire nation, scape all the debris into giagantic incinerators and reduce all of it to ashes, then rebuild. What I noticed last time, is they are building over dirt. They need to scrape out the entire area before rebuilding. The sword of Good and Evil. -

Array I heard from Schaeger7 and his wife; they survived the inital onslaught, but when the cold front that came through a couple of days later, they had significant damge and are out of their house for a while.'
They said that Ed White center had flooding and the place was covered in silt; they managed to evacuate the clup equipment.
Haven't heard anything about anyone else from any of the other clubs. -

Array I certainly don't mean to belittle your hardships, and I hope everything turns out alright. But take a moment and let's ALL be grateful that Ike didn't hit as hard as Katrina or Ivan. I went down personally about 3 weeks after Ivan hit and volunteered in a church clean-up crew in Pensacola, FL. My brother and dad went down to Louisiana to help with Ike clean-up this past weekend, and they said it was pretty bad, but not near the destruction of Ivan. Anyways, I hope anyone who is down there in the Houston/gulf area is alright and doing well, cheers! Similar Threads -
