Array Oh, man. I'm so very tempted to fly out for that event, just to say I did it.
People keep asking what could make fencing a better spectator sport; I think we now have the answer. What I wouldn't give to hear a director say, "That be a touch for starboard, Jim boy!"
The winner ought to receive a bottle of rum too. -

Array Wow, that's amazing. I would love to fence such a tournament. ... without remorse for the past, confident in the present, and full of hope for the future, [d'artagnan] went to bed and slept the sleep of the brave.

Array I can dig it myself if I lived nearby, I might even come out of retirement.

Array This sounded like an absolutely neat thing when I first read of it.
Too bad I won't be able to make it, even though Columbus lies within my normal "circle of interest"--i.e., the radius of expended time which I'm willing to drive for tournaments.
On a different note, Sildar struck a particularly noteworthy chord. Q: What can we do to promote fencing in our areas?
A: Be creative. Stage tournaments in unusual places--on the deck of a sailing ship, for example! -

Array Well, just add glow-in-the-dark tip tape, and some sort of device to make the weapons go "vroom, vroom" when you wave them around, and have a planetarium host the event...
Of course, some smart alec director might start saying things like "Meesa tink point left!" and then the fencers would have to kill him. -

Array Sildar, that's very funny! I'd love to do this tournament, as it's always been one of my dreams. I certainly hope they will make this an annual event!!! I can't make it because the Michigan Renaissance Festival is sending we 3 Musketeers down to Kansas City the first weekend of October to show thier Musketeers how it's done. Very flattering, I must say!
Hey, Salle Aramis: make this an annual event!!!!! -

Array Yes, I imagine that if the director started imitating Jar Jar, we'd came WWIII on our hands. ... without remorse for the past, confident in the present, and full of hope for the future, [d'artagnan] went to bed and slept the sleep of the brave.

Array Have to agree with Slidar. Must kill Director.... especially if he is acting broodishly drunk.
Otherwise, it looks like a really fun event. Don't take life so seriously... You'll never live through it. -

Array Fencing on the deck of a ship? How much better can it get? I would love to just go and watch it if not compete. To bad I'm 'underaged' (not out on my own), have school, tennis, everything else, and I don't have the money to get there.
Man that'd be fun! It sucks living in a Dessert.

fencing strips Currently my fencers are working on a concrete floor, this is very hard on the knees as well as slipery, does anyone know where and what i can get to put down on the floor to use as a piste that is not overly expensive? -

Array That has to be one of the most utterly cool ideas! As Doug could tell you, I'm a BIG pirate fan. Fencing on a ship...wow...
And Doug, congrats on the newest gig! You guys really are excellent (even though I must root for Captain Sapphire & the Seven Deadly Sins). "Words are, of course, the most powerful drug used by mankind."
