They should have just been honest and called it "We Swear We're Still Relevant...Why Are You Laughing?"
As for actual commentary, I can tell about this much from what I've heard- the songs are either a tired rehash of their old thrash style, which sounds awful with Hetfield's current singing, or it's them proving that they can't write decent music anymore(if you were in the camp that they could to start with). Also, Lars' drums still sound like ass, and they're pushed up WAY to far in the mix.

All I can figure is that Clif Burton was 90 percent of Metallica's tallent, becouse it was all down hill after he died. "One" is one of their best songs, as are a few from the black album, but after that they just lost it.
It's almost like they're different people. James can's sing and doesn't appear to be trying to; lars doesn't play the drums anymore, he just seems to be hitting them very hard over and over...

Here is the best way I can describe it.
Kirk Hammerons guitar is much better than in St Anger.
Hetfields vocals, however, are not.
Lars really likes drums.
Robert Trujillo is not really a notable bassist.
The song writing is better.
It does not sound like the old albums. If you want that, you're gonna be dissapointed.
Listen to the album three times over before you make a decision on it.

So if they don't release it on vinyl I won't be buying it.
