    San Francisco Hotel

    Ok Guys and Gals
I am heading to San Francisco for a long weekend. I'll be there from October 3rd to October 6th. (for a family wedding) I have never been there before, and needs some advice. Does anyone know the name of a good (clean), affordable (up to 200.00 per night) hotel.

Sorry I can't help you there, but I can bump this thread until someone does.

I've never stayed in a Hotel in SF. It's just too close to home. But where do you want to be? Downtown, by the Air Port somewhere else around the city? Downtown SF is pricey and $200 is the low end. Though I understand that the Marriott is maybe $199.

Go to priceline.com and try downtown for 4 stars and priced at what you consider reasonable, $150-200. Some of the namebrands are Hyatt Regency, Marriott and then there are several other older places such as the Westin.
    .
But being the penny pincher I am I would go for the airport or Oakland city center Marriott($110). It's a short ride by Bart to downtown SF and the Bart station is just outside the Hotel door.

Google it and see what adventures you can have. Whose wedding?

PM EDEW. He's more up on such things.

I work and frequently stay in town

I frequently (30-40 nights) stay in SF. Since you are staying on a weekend you can generally find lower rates in all hotels. Rates are higher during the week.
I am a huge fan of the Omni Hotel. It is located in the financial district which is an easy walk to North Beach, the Ferry Building, Chinatown, Union Square, Coit Tower and, if you are fit, you can walk to Fisherman's Wharf. It is an upscale hotel with good friendly bar and an excellent, but expensive steak restaurant. Darryl, the head doorman, knows everything that is going on around town. He is a native and knows SF and Oakland inside out and backwards. He can tell you who is playing at virtually any club.
If you go on the internet http://http://www.omnihotels.com/FindAHotel/SanFrancisco.aspx
You can find their rates. The weekend is near your $200/night. The weeknights will be higher.
I know that the Marriott is running some specials, so it is worth a check if you have some influence with the major chains.
There are a few things going on that weekend (Dragon boat festival, Castro Street Fair, Love Parade), so the Omni may not have many inexpensive rooms.
Another place that I've stayed that may work is the Hotel Carlton on Lower Nob Hill. It is a Joie de Vivre Hotel, kind of boutique with some interesting restraurants nearby. I just ran a quick check and they have rooms at about $200 for that time (very good rate).

I'll be at a tournament at UC Berkeley that weekend.
    Great town. Have fun.

    Thank you guys.
I'll check those suggestions out. My cousin is getting married. Since the passing of both my parents and our Grandmother, I figured I should go. Never know when it will be the last time. The kids and Couch lump are NOT going, so I can do what I want. By the way, Whats a "Love Parade"?

I usually stay at the Best Western Hotel Tomo located Sutter street in "Japantown". And it is located at 1 mile from the City center.

Okay, well........remember that this is San Francisco. The love parade is a celebration of love. Love for you partner, love for your dog, love for your kids, love for your planet, love of loud music and strange costumes (or no costumes); anything that a person may love. As with all things SF, there is absolutely no judgement, except savage judgement of intolerance. It runs for a couple of hours with floats, loud music and strange sights. The city fathers and mothers block off a mile or so of Market and the Parade runs to the civic center somewhere, where it becomes a festival until the late hours.
Be prepared (as if there is any way to prepare) for a variety of sights, including the jarring sight of geriatric nudists walking down the street.

I guess it is a good thing that the kids (ages 7 and 9) will not be going.

A fun hotel is the nautical themed Argonaut, right on the waterfront by the Wharf, almost next to the cable car line and within walking distance or mass transit literally anywhere. They also have a free nightly wine party/happy hour.

If you want to stay more in the financial district, the Palace Hotel is very nice, probably not as expensive during the weekends, and is still pretty close to that area's cable car line, as well. It is old, the rooms are smaller, but you will sleep in the nicest bed and bedding you could ever imagine. And it is very beautiful and historic.
