The McCain campaign cannot believe its good luck, that the democrats continue to focus on Palin. For those voters just now starting to pay close attention (and that would be the vast majority of them), the Obama campaign looks more and more defensive every day. They make a big deal out of Palin, continue to focus on how Obama is better than she is, continue to act all hysterical about her, and the voter thinks she must be a threat to the democrats.
If the democrats and their supporters had just left it alone, Palin could have been just a 9-day wonder, left in the dust of a focus-on-Obama campaign as the Republicans forced themselves to look weak by trying too hard to make Palin a big deal. But instead, the Obama team has made her a big deal, and continues to do so.
It really does still look like the democratic candidate for President is running against the republican candidate for Vice President. McCain and Biden are so far in the background.
This isn't the only reason for the poll results, of course, but in light of it it's hardly surprising that the deomcrats are in a much worse position than they had any reason to expect by this point.

If I had to hazard a guess on the Democrats' current strategy, it's probably them thinking that McCain is a known quantity at this point. They aren't going to change the minds of the people who are voting for him based on their support of him as a candidate. What they're probably trying to do is keep Palin from swinging more of the independent and women voters over to the Republicans. I'm not really sure if it's the best way to go about things, but it's still pretty far from election time, so Palin's current influence isn't relevant just yet. She'll get the religious right that may not have gone for McCain, but with every article that comes out about how often she's involved in less than scrupulous behavior, she'll drive away more of the undecided bracket.
And look, it appears the whole "Troopergate" crap is finally on its way out. Appears there's plenty of evidence the Monegan was fired for very legitimate reasons...namely, not following the Governor's guidance and publicly going against her decisions. You can argue whether or not that's the right call for the staffer, but firing is obviously the result for disregarding a lawful decision by your superior.
Of course, all the evidence supporting Palin is buried at the bottom of the article, but regardless, I think this will help destroy any influence this alleged scandal had, at least over independents and conservatives that may have been affected. Other articles hint at more evidence of a similar vein, so I'm guessing this will fade away.

Has the article at the link changed? When I click on it, it is a very short, 3 paragraph article that doesn't give a basis for the suit filed other than that the Republicans call the investigation "unlawful, biased, partial and partisan."

It has, actually. The basic story is the same, but a summary of some of some of the evidence isn't included anymore. In fact, when I checked, it said it had been updated 3 minutes ago, and when I checked later, it said 8 minutes ago, so guess AP is messing around with it some. The quote about his farewell e-mail, for example, is currently toward the bottom of the article, but was originally towards the top. Not unusual for a new story, I guess, but unfortunate that they took out the best parts (and not surprising).
Hmmm. Odd. Well, obviously the McCain camp's e-mailed press release is a fairly partisan take on the subject, so we'll have to wait for a more mainstream/accepted news source to publish more details on the evidence submitted.
The pastor whose prayer Sarah Palin says helped her to become governor of Alaska founded his ministry with a witchhunt against a Kenyan woman who he accused of causing car accidents through demonic spells.

Here's the problem: Those are e-mails she released earlier and there are 1100 e-mails she is holding back and refusing to release.
One item of concern here is that much of what is happening in the Troopergate issue is related to her husband, not to her and many of the government e-mails have a cc to her husband.
And people thought that Hillary was too involved in her husband's administration?
To be honest, I think die-hard conservatives vote the way they do out of deep-seated cultural and emotional patterns which rational arguments have difficulty reaching. Therefore, I'm more inclined to put information/arguments out there to appeal to moderate fencesitters.
Daily Kos is regarded unfavorably by the kinds of conservatives who get their marching orders from Drudge, WorldNutDaily, and FOX News. But moderates should know that Kos, while a diary site and thus obviously not as reliable as a more mainstream publication, is a decent initial source of updates.

It's also the place where I first saw the rumor about Palin's youngest son being her grandson. I'm not going to trust them again after that one.
I need to see an original source or confirmed reports from multipls sources before I consider it possibily trustworthy.
Oh, for the good ole' days when one could just turn on Walter Conkrite and know that if he said it, it was true.
In spite of her most recent opinion on abortion; I would rather have her than الجماهيرية العربية الليبية الشعبية الاشتراكية العظمى Al-Jamāhīriyyah al-ʿArabiyyah al-Lībiyyah aš-Šaʿbiyyah al-Ištirākiyyah al-ʿUẓmā Great Socialist People's Jama-hiriya Or whatever it is.
Maybe that's what they're all about anyway. We have a little desert? Anyone want some?

More importantly, who is the Divine Babaji backing?

I'm surprised that Palin's not making more campaigning errors. I'd expected her to commit more gaffes... maybe not as many as Biden (it would take a Dan Quayle to even come close to Biden there), but at least more than I'm hearing about. What gives?
