| Amid this, the Greco Roman bronze throwing, and the boxing scandal, fencing seems to be coming off pretty well as far as the martial arts/combat sports go.

| Epic fail Neintoon....Steven Lopez is not only far from a n00b but is arguably one of the best athletes of all time in his sport. That sport also happens to be one of the most notoriously corrupt and deficient sports out there. I don't think I've ever spoken with anyone seriously involved with TKD that didn't levy complaints about the way politics and other external factors effect competitions. What does this mean? It means that even if he's actually being a crybaby (which seems potentially doubtful) he's actually raising legitimate red flags that the federation will have no choice but to deal with.

| Yeah I heard a cuban kicked one.
The Lopez guy is just mad he lost and is complaining to get sympathy. He's making a big deal of losing and might get TKD cut from the olympics.
that's a jerk. I hope the rest of his family continues to fail.

that's a jerk. I hope the rest of his family continues to fail. | I have to call you on this young one! Steven is not complaining to get sympathy. As stated earlier in this thread he is in on of the most politically corrupt Olympic sports out there. The federation did in fact have all the coaches sign that statement agreeing to not protest any calls. They are deathly afraid they will be investigated and found wanting. Please before you spout-- research! This is one place where a family really worked for years to get where they are. Yes they are a bit over the top in merchandising their fame, but they are not the bad guy here. They have succeeded despite the system, not because of it!

and how is it any more corrupt than any other sport, is it really that way, or is it just like any other sport, kind of corrupt.
It's a bad call, happens a lot in fencing, no one takes it up with the FIE. do they? maybe they do -.-

| It doesn't really have to do with knowing anything about TKD, considering all the decisions have been made, by people who know more than anyone else.
and if I were to raise my post count I'd set up my macrobot and post in the 516k thread.

as a former high level competitive martial artist and current fencer, fencing in its current state, compared to TKD in its current state, fencing is BY FAR better. |

| Wow, that cuban athlete was not demonstrating the Olympic spirit.
I agree... Fencing is coming off great at these Olympics. Let's get our two team events back! |

And, also, I totally kept reading WTF as "what the f***" instead of "World Taekwondo Federation." Hee, I'm so immature. |

I don't have a whole lot of respect for the opponent, either. I don't know what I would do in that situation, but it probably wouldn't be celebrating the referee getting kicked in the head.

| What do you expect from a sport whose international organizing federation's acronym is WTF? Thank gawd we don't belong to the League 'o Lancers. What a joke that would be. KTHX BRB.
Maybe we can use this as a great selling point to snag athletes from TKD dojos. We just tell them, what's the point of doing your TKD sport? After you get good, you get screwed.

| I agree with edew. I took up fencing first and then TKD as a way to exercise and develop agility. Early on I made the conscious decision to compete in the former and just train in the latter. My TKD training focuses on the forms and techniques more than sparring, so my knowledge of that side of the sport is not that deep. Perhaps TKD can be saved by going hi-tech. Pressure sensors could be inserted in the hogu and the headgear.
I think we should donate Rene Roch to WTF. It would be cool, the compeitors would look like this:
