    Fencing in Greater Vancouver?

I've recently migrated to the lovely Fraser Valley area outside of Vancouver and would like to attack some Canadians.

Could anyone recommend a good fencing club/program around here? Close-to-Van recs are welcome too as quality is more important than proximity.

    Thanks.

Attacking Canadians?! That does sound like fun!

Welcome to the forums! I'm far from Canada, so I can't be much help with the finding of a place to fence.

Fencergrl is the Vancoucer expert. But she has gone camping in Saskachatoba (or some other Canadian name).

You could search for some of her posts as she often recommends clubs in the area.

    Welcome

Hi again. Thanks to all. I see I struck a nerve with my desire to attack our Canadian friends.

Yes, whoa, I saw that list but didn't find it very helpful -- links that led to expired websites and error pages, which don't exactly make a good first impression.

So human recs are desperately desired. Which clubs are good? Which clubs are ? Which clubs are worth a looong drive through rainy weather? If you have a lot of dirt and want to share, just PM me instead.

I should also say that fencing would be a new activity for me. I do have a fair amount of weapons experience, albeit with Japanese traditional weapons. Time to try something more modern, I think.

dynamo dynamo dynamo dynamo in richmond BC...nothing more needs to be said..arguably the best club in western canada. (but i'll say more anyway).

gantsevich is a great coach (and cool guy) with several club members in the HPP program and other SOLID fencers, reasonable membership prices for a club of that quality, good facility, you can't really want anything more.

Here's the official list of clubs in BC: http://www.fencing.bc.ca/Content/The...er%20Clubs.asp

If you're fencing foil or sabre, may I suggest dropping by North Vancouver Fencing Club. Their Maitre d'Armes, Zbig Pietrusinski, is knowledgeable in all three weapons. He's willing to work with his students if they want to fence competitively.

His contact information is up on the website (click the link above).

    Hope that helps.

I got info (while I was away and haven't followed up on) that he's now coaching at Vanguard (I don't know if it's in addition to his club or instead of).

Glow's recommendation of the Dynamo is a good one. It all depends on where you're situated, there's lots of clubs everywhere. PM me if you need any additional info.
