Don't stress out about losing, or hitting off target. It's all a learning experiance.

When you practice, make it count. Don't do anything sloppy.

    Most of all, have fun.

Yes. Take your time to develop a strong foundation. Everything will come with time.

And follow the advice on this board, and this board alone, 100% from all members. We never contradict each other.

But really... be observant. Watch others and learn from their fencing too; good and bad.

Good shoes do not have to be "fencing" shoes, but you will likely want a pair that you only wear for fencing. Listen to your coach. They know everything. (Esp when they are 4'10" epeeists and conduct themselves with the most ladylike grace.)

Learn to care for your own equipment. When you respect it, it will treat you well.

Beware of strangers crossing the ice.

if your parents can dish out 60k a year for you, and you're 5 years old right now, you might make them at like 12-14.

You have to be pretty spoiled though.

And there is a lot of hard work and sweat involved.....just like with any other sport.

that too, but one's the limiting reagent and one's not..

if you truly wanna be pro, then the amount of hurdles won't stop you, but the money requires to get you over them, will.

    Your practically on the team!

There are a very limited number of fencers who have more experience than you. You will learn them by name and beat them.

    That is all it takes.

My gentle suggestion is to use proper spelling and above all capitalization when posting, please. See below.
Use the Shift key, people! Keyboard manufacturers everywhere are ineffably saddened when you ignore what they made just for you!

    Here is just my opinion.

If all that matters is getting to the Olympics, don't fence.

If you enjoy fencing even if you don't get into the Olympics, and want to fence, fence.

You can have hope but remember that very few make it that far.

yeah i understand. but i also wanna fence because the sport interests me. i also wanna go to competitions. i knew there'd be a big chance i couldn't go to the olympics, but maybe i can make it big in division, state, and national competitions if i put all my heart and effort to it.

    Slightly LESS gently:

The same heart and effort you put into your typing?

This is neither a chat room nor a text message...

    I don't criticize typos.

( I might make fun of them when they create inadvertent puns, though. )

I do criticize deliberate laziness, the which basically says to the reader "Only MY convenience matters, I don't give a hang about you".

If I did, it would be a typo, not a deliberate choice.

But hey, you capitalized a whole growl, there! Progress.
