You can get rated at any tournaments, if the say tournament is "good enough" and you did well at it.
Basically, Ranking > Rating.
IMO, Rating means nothing, almost. -
Kidlazy is just a maverick.
Rating means you can chest bump and thump.
Plus, you can brag, and you can scare random people across the strip from you by reminding your far away teammate, through shouts, your rating.

When you get your A, like me, then we'll talk again on this subject. -
if I get an A, i'll be chest pounding so loudly you'll know.

What I meant was, the current rating system is not really accurate (it reflects top performance only) and missing few levels above "A" (due to rating inflation, ABC aren't what they use to be). Reform is needed, but no clear solution yet. I said I'll talk to you about it later because you seem to be not listening...
but that's not going to happen With enough training, you will. Anybody can, just depending how much you are willing to pay (time, money, blood, sweat, etc.).

Array It was great. It was only me and 3 other people. The coach was very cool. My legs were sore after but it felt good. I assume that's the name of a famous fencer. lol -

1. The Three Musketters (Dumas). From whence cometh the legend of D'Artagnan.
2. The Fencing Master (Perez-Reverte). For whence cometh the .... I don't know... a really good book.
3. A life time of others.
Both are still in print.

After my first practice I could barely walk. Actually I think my instructor is in the military as he wears a t-shirt that says "Swedish armed forces fencing team" and makes us do marchés and rompés until we cry blood, I like it
And yeah, D'Artagnan is kinda well known, dont you read The three musketeers in school these days?

Array So last night was my second class. It was basically the same as the first because more people joined in. So he had to go over all the basics again. But I think I'm gonna request private lessons from him. I want more than just one class every Wednesday. -

I do 4 practices a week, plus 2 lessons, and I suck.... most of the time.
Do be patient though. One of the two of us must be.
Also I say this with trepidations: Your class size is small. Is there a bigger group somewhere in the gym or area? You will eventually need to be around more fencers if possible. If not, enjoy and do as many NACs and local events as possible, and see where this leads.
BTW, your 216th class is going to be the same, but by then you are going to realize this is a sport of millimeters, and your coach knows this. He is totally focused (when he is not drunk, assuming Urkranian - both the best drinkers and coaches) on the 1/2 mm you need to succeed. It is lesson 16 through 192 when you wonder if the problem is your coach. It's not.
I would quickly add, just when you think you are totally worthless as a fencer (lesson 27), make sure you contact fencergrl. She is the best.
Have fun. I will fence you as soon as I can.

Array I am new to fencing, as well, and I just had my third private lesson last Tuesday, and still feel sore. My coach advised me to take advantage of open fencing, which is part of my membership. He told me before I did this that I was going to walk out of the salle with my tail between my legs, and he was correct; I was beaten by a 17-year old, and a 50-year old. One day, I hope to fence as well as they do.
It is such a rush, going down the strip.
And boricuafencer, perhaps one day (2016? =P) you and I will be on the same team. -

The hard part when fencing a newby is not knowing what wierd, untrained thing they will do next.
