Array Grants This may be of no value, but I thought I would post it on the off chance that someone was in a similar situation.
One of the clubs I belong to is at a "Y". I help with this program as a volunteer. The fencing program is in essence a program of the YWCA.
I work for a fairly large corporation ( PPG Industries) and recently found out that I could get a small $500.00 dollar grant because I was a volunteer in this program. It was quick and painless. (Not much paper work.) I could have gotten this even if I was retired.
Every little bit helps.
In the event you find yourself in a similar circumstance, it might pay you to take a closer look at your company's donation program.

Array When I worked for Wal-Mart my fencing club held a car wash in their parking lot. They have a non-profit grant for groups who do fundraisers at their store where they match what you bring in. My club raised around $245 (minus expenses for materials) and WM gave us a check for $550. - It's not that I chose to fence, it's that I feel I have to fence. -
Is Wal-Mart's math that bad or did you deduct a LOT for materials? -

Array I'm not really too sure what it was. When our club secretary filled out the form, she put down the amount that we gained after taking out the cost of supplies. So either Wal-Mart's math is that bad, or they have a minimum limit that they provide......or perhaps they were feeling rather generous that day. Anyway, it was much needed money that was put to good use (new jackets, masks, and 15 new practice foils to replace older ones). - It's not that I chose to fence, it's that I feel I have to fence. -

AF No, the YMCA got the donation. For every so many hours he volunteers at a qualified non-profit, in the this case the YMCA fencing program, his corporation will make a donation of some dollar amount. Many corporations do this to recognize and encourage their employees volunteer efforts in the community. However beautiful the strategy, you should occasionally take a look at the results. ~ Churchill
